Default Never wax finish

Back in 1998 I bought my 1997 BMW Z-3..........the dealer told me I would never need to wax the car and that I should never use any abrasives (no matter how gentile) because of some finish he had done to the car.

He was an exotic cars car dealer....my BMW was the cheapest car on his lot, any way I really have neglected the paint on this car......hardly ever needs washing, never waxed it.......I've left it outside most of the time summers ans winters.....it still looks fantastic, like a very high end custom paint job......never water spots....

My question is............what the H*LL did he do to it?????

I'm telling you I truly abused the paint on this car....drove winters on salted roads.....grandkids were always rubbing their dirty hands up and down the sides.......nothing seems to hurt it!!!

He moved away and closed shop many years ago so I can not ask him.

I'd love to be able to do the same to my BLACK 05 COUPE

Some time ago I heard of high end cars getting teflon coated. Could be something of that nature *shrug*

Not to sound overly skeptical, but I'd love to see this car in person. I've seen way too many cars that people thought looked "showroom new" but were really in need of some TLC, sometimes serious. This includes some very rare classics that are worth several hundred thousand dollars, and even a million $$$ or more.

I've even had people come down to our classes or Thursday Night Open Garages and challenge us to make their car look better if we think we can. We always can.

As for teflon coating, there is no way you can just wipe on a true teflon coating and have it do anything at all. Dupont will tell you this, and they're the folks that make the stuff. To get a true teflon coating on anything it must be baked on, not just wiped, sprayed on rubbed on. Again, that's Dupont talking, not me.

I have no reason for asking other than how happy I am with my little Z-3......

It really is amazing just how well the finish has held up over the years considering the neglect it received from me........this little car was nothing more than a daily workhorse that spent years outside under big pine trees.

Like I said rarely washed....if washed it was at a car wash.....never waxed.....I was good about oil changes, tires and brakes....oh ya one battery.

Your welcome to stop by and see the car, but something makes me wonder if anything would convince you of my story......all I want to do is get the water spots and swirls off my black roadster and do what ever was done to the Z-3 and I'll be a very happy camper
