Hi Mike

The trick is to apply it to a surface that does not have a heavy load of another product already on it since that can compromise UB's ability to bond. This is especially true if you've used a synthetic polymer product on the surface previously. For example, Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Wax, which is a spray wax that won't stain plastic trim; if you've used UQW on your trim and then try to apply UB over it, the UB won't bond and it will wash away pretty quickly.

What can we use to prepare a surface that has a coating on it so the new product will work?

Thanks Joe

Dish soap is usually the ultimate in terms of getting rid of waxes etc.

xfchris and valk - How did you get the wipers off so you could spray the panel? I heard that you need some kind of special tool to remove the wipers. If you can get the wipers off I guess the panel can be removed so it can be sprayed. Let me know.

Thanks,

Jim

Either a small puller, or in my case I have removed them from 3 different cars by just folding the arms up, then firmly rocking the lower arm up and down ( after the nut is removed )

I've been using Meguiars Tire Gel on the cowl with very good results, it stays looking new a very long time. I got this tip from Ala-xfire

Funny you should mention that. Just picked up the last bottle that Advance had yesterday, they said they would no longer be stocking it.

And BTW, I can't take credit for that, Max first showed me the joys of Meguier's Tire Gel on the black wear strip where the convertible top hits the tonneau.

Why not just take it off and give it a once (or twice) over a with a rattle can, use paint that is good for plastic. BoilerUp for one did his,a real pro job as well as others.

Because I can do the gel without taking it off and it looks great and lasts a whole year or so.
I also use the gel on other black parts under the hood while I'm at it, like hoses and radiator shroud and water tank and battery top etc etc.

You paint yours, I'll continue to gel mine
