Default Number of 'O' Rings

I just changed my oil and the new filter came with 5 'O' Rings. The old filters came with 4. The new filter came with 2 of the next to the biggest size. Was it just a mistake in packaging or should I add another 'O' Ring. If so where does it go.

I got the same amount of O rings (5) with my new filter but I only replaced the ones (4) that were on the existing filter. I haven't had any problems.

I was told that the extra O ring is for the drain plug.

Same thing here, I just kept it as a "just in case" item.

I just talked to MB. The SLK 350 has the same filter but uses 5 'O' Rings. So they put 5 in with all the filters. They would need a different P/N for the same filter to come with only 4.

I bought mine at a Kragen... PH8A Fram.

Just kidding, I'm deliriously tired this morning. I picked up mine from a local Chrysler dealer's parts counter. I think I paid 12 and some change. I expected Chrysler to have their own box design so I kinda chuckled when I saw the guy bring out a Mercedes Benz box. Cool nonetheless!!!
