AMG airbox installation
Hello Folks,
Picked-up a AMG airbox assembly for a 3.2 from member Advanz.
Got it installed and pictures are posted in my member's gallery.
I used the air intake tubes from a 2005 STR6 Crossfire. I think they may use the same airbox. Right now it's held together with industrial strength zip-ties which will soon be replaced by aircraft grade stainless band clamps.
I think this should settle the argument about the BEST available cold air intake. This set-up uses TOTALLY factory parts, inhales cold air, has HUGE filter panels and flows enough air for a 350+ horsepower motor.
I'll post all the Mopar/AMG/Benz part numbers tomorrow.
Cheers,
Cincinnati Slim
p.s. Thanks Advanz !

Sorry MAYAman...
I'll post the part numbers here soon so you can achieve the same results.
As for the engine cover, I'm not going that route.
One of the main objectives was to be able to SEE the motor when the hood is opened !
Thanks,
Slim

Maxwell,
The "square thing" is just the top pf the "y" pipe assembly.
There's a sort of dished "lid" attached by a set of torx screws.
No mods were needed except I had to remove the rubber seal inside the "y" pipe where it attached to the MAF. The Crossfire MAF is about 1/8" too big for the Benz "y" pipe. I'm using a fat elastic band a a seal now. It is actually a drive belt for a sweeper; origin unknown. Just a big tough rubber band really. Nice snug and no leaks. I'll replace the industrial strength zip-ties with stainless band clamps in the next few weeks for a more "factory" look.

You had to mod your engine cover didn't you? Because you would still have to 2 black tubes to connect the intakes into, but now your bypassing it. Any pics with cover on?
Looks good, but now you have to do something with the intake manifold. I would look mighty good if it were polished.
One question for you: How's the performance? Any better or worse?

Honestly, one of the main goals was to get rid of the engine cover !
I like being able to see the motor. I have the base model coupe so the cover is plain black plastic. Blah !
I like seeing the intake alloy casting. Yes, it would look good polished but that's not really in the budget. I am considering a silver-grey "hammertone" paint job via a Rustoleum "rattle-can" for the raw alloy manifold.
Sorry to say, I never did any base-line total stock runs so I'm not going to make performance claims. I'll put my stock intake/cover on when I go in for my first oil change. ( which is free at Wullenweber, the dealer I purchased it from ). The Edgewater dragstrip is only about three miles from there. If It's "tune and test Friday" I might do some runs with the stock intake/cover in place. I'm going to get a "top-sider" and do my own oil changes after that.
I like Wullenweber's service department but given the stories I've heard about service on these cars I plan on staying away unless something major breaks while under warranty.

Greetings,
Here are the part numbers for this set-up...
Air intake tubes from radiator area to air boxes, Benz and Chrysler parts numbers as follows...
A 112 094 15 82
05135452AA
and
A 112 094 14 82
05135451AA
The rest are M-B/AMG numbers on the parts...
MAF "Y" pipe...A 112 090 01 29
Rt. Flex Tube...02 6367 A
Lf. Flex Tube...02 6367 B
Rt. Airbox...A 112 090 1001
Lf. Airbox...A 112 090 0901
These are probably also listed under Chrysler part numbers for SRT6 applications. A helpful parts guy or a wrecked SRT6 could confirm this !
I DO like being able to SEE the motor now!
Cheers,
Slim

it looks hott like I said!!! and brent, you SHOULDN'T get a amg front cover, leave it as it is! or infact, when you have TIME. get engine paint, paint the air boxes red. (or silver) and polish the top of your engine!
and no joke about additional upgrades on my 320coupe. lol for example. here is a recent one. aka today.

glad I helped you out brent!

Ohhh Yea, Carbon fiber !
Looks like some of the parts I saw while working for GE aircraft engines at Peebles and Evendale. Very high-tech, aerospace grade sort of stuff there...
