Default First Oil Change

At what mileage did you get your first oil change?

I am thinking about going to the local Mercedes dealer under the assumption they will have more experience with the unique looking oil filter, etc. Anyone else go this route?

I would say that it is a good idea to do your first oil change shortly after the break in period.. at around 2k miles... at least that is what I would do with this car... and there is nothing really complicated with out oil filter.. it is very simple to install...

1st dealer Maint. is at 3,000 miles. Do I have to take it to dealer? Or just buy oil filter at dealer (save receipt) and do oil change myself? I would hate to give my money away.

You can find the oil filter kit at pretty much any auto parts store. IMO it's easier to find the filter than it is to find 0-40 mobil1.

As far as changing it...it's really not that difficult. Just download the service manual and read it first! If you have any mechanical ability at all, you should be able to handle it!

I went to my local 5 star this morning to buy my first oil filter. The one that they sold me has the following numbers on the box:

A 000 180 31 09
05183748AA

I was expecting the 000-180-26-09 for the fleece and did not want the 000-180-22-09 paper filter.

Does anyone know if this is just a newer design? They told me that it was the only filter that they had.

I get an STP oil filter at my local Autozone (has 0-40 too) and it seems to work just fine (is there really a difference?). I mean if it does I can just pick up another one (about $12) and drop it in halfway through the oil cycle since it's really easy to change out the oil filter on these cars.

I just got the same one, as I'm preparing for my first oil change, it's impossible for me to confirm, hopefully someone will chime in.

I bought my beloved Crossfire just a couple weeks ago. The dealer claims they changed the oil, but the more I think about it the more I question that. Do I really believe they completed a $130 oil change to sell a used car? Not sure. I am changing mine this weekend. I'm comfortable with the process, especially after reading many of the posts on the forum. Can't be that hard.

I changed my oil at 5,000K. (3,000 M). Had the dealer do it. $149 tax in. Should be good for 11,000K before I have to spend another $149. K&N has a oil filter for the Crossfire.
