Default Bye-Bye To Resonator Today

I have an appointment today to have the resonator removed from my SRT 6 and replaced with a custom built stainless steel "Y" pipe. I was hoping to have the GTECH meter that I've been trying to order by now to see if it will make any difference in HP, TQ or 0 to 60. The guy at the exhaust shop gave me an estimate of $35 to $40 till I told him I wanted 304 SS, then he said " well that will be a little more, the SS pipe is expensive". He's not looked at the car yet I hope he can do the job, one thing nice I guess, he said if he couldn't do a real good job on it he wouldn't do it at all.

If your exhaust guy can't do it right away, if you want to pay for shipping I can loan you my gtech. I will be out for surgery for a bit as of the 13th, so obviously I won't be using my gtech. Let me know.

Let us know what happens - any noticeable difference, sound etc.

Ouch, surgery. Hope it nothing serious. Thanks for the offer, I'm sure it won't make a lot of difference in hp & tq. I can only hope it will gain 2 to 5 more ponies and sound better. I also hope it don't drowned out the sound of the supercharger, I like hearing that WHINE.

its good... and his claimed price was also good, but for that price i bet he was talking about an aluminum y-pipe... make sure that your exhaust tips are straight after the procedure and make sure there are no leaks either... this is done by starting the car and letting some gases run through... while the car is on the stand...

My Pleasure, we are all anxious for anything and everything that can be had out of these cars. Surgery, ugh, my 4th hernia repair on the same side, and no compensation from the failed patches. ARGH. but oh well, it was because of my hernia that I sold the harley and got my crossfire so I guess I should say thank you? lol. On a side note, did we ever get any resolution to the fuel injector thread?

I got the job done last Tuesday, got home jacked up the car to take a few pic's to post. And went to load up the Xfire site and it wasn't there. I'll try to post up some pic's when I get home from work tonight. The guy done a great job, at an idle it don't sound any different, but going down the road it is noticeably louder and at around 3,500 the butt dyno thinks it's got a little more juice.

Does it drone or resonate at highway speed while cruising at 55-75 MPH? That's my biggest concern about doing it...

I look forward to your pictures and that you like the sound improvement. How much was the install with SS pipes?

I ordered my parts through Burns and the local muffler/race fab shop quoted $60 for the install.

Thanks for your posts on some great mods!

Yes, it does I guess drone somewhat, but it's a good drone. One thing I do kind of like, if you down shift or happen to be doing some slap stick'in it has some poppity - crack to it when you let off of it. And you can feel the exhaust.

The guy at the exhaust shop used a 304 SS magnaflow "Y" pipe, and he just happened to have a 4 or 5 foot piece of very heavy SS pipe left over from doing a '67 Mustang show car. I think he said he charged that guy something like $1,800 to do his car in this SS pipe from the headers all the way back. The SS pipe was so thick he could not do much of a bend in it or it would kink. It took him about two hours to do the job & charged me $140, not to bad for what I got.

The guy at the exhaust shop said that removing the resonator should help open up the exhaust and I should be able to tell. I thought eh, he's feeding me a line of BS. Just cruising around playing a little I really didn't feel any difference in power, but when I got out on the road home I got behind a 10 wheeler grain truck leaking corn (ha, imagine that in Indiana this time of the year) and a car between us. We finally came to a short passing zone and I nailed it, man my car took off like a rocket, better than I think it ever had. Maybe I was just imagining it, but I think it gave it a few more ponies.

In time I think you will feel the exhaust is still a little to quiet... than you will take off the rear cats.

At least this is what happened to me...

If the exhaust guy would have had enough of that nice thick SS pipe I probably would have ended up with true duals from the cat's back, but I really wasn't after loud.

Looks like a pretty good system...but those are the ugliest welds I have seen in a long time!

How does it sound?

It's just a little louder than stock, I really don't think I would want it much louder.
