Default oil change increase

Just had my oil change today (I do it every 3 mo) and it went from about $119 to $130, $94 for oil and filter and $25 for labor and $2.35 for shop supplies and $7.99 tax.
Will it never end.

Wow that's a lot of driving in 3 months, usually it's every 10k miles, at that rate it's gonna get expensive. I only spend $64 on Amsoil synthetic, and $9 for a filter.

3k was way too soon to be changing a synthetic oil...

$9 for an oil filter??? Must be cheap paper which will not hold up for 10k miles...

Ouch. I'm glad I change my own. It's very easy with the filter mounted at the top of the engine. I buy the fleece filter in the mercedes box from the chrysler dealer for $21.99. Eight quarts of mobile one at 4 something a quart. Ten minutes of time. Priceless. I actually make buying the oil less painful, I buy a quart whenever I go to the parts store for wax or whatever and over time you never know you spent $40 on 8 quarts of oil.

I buy the oil myself for $6 a quart (9*$6 = $54) Buy the filter from mercedes at $20. Labor at the dealer $14. All adds up to $88. Not sure why anyone would pay more.

I always change my own oil.

My FSS said I had 1,800 miles to go until next oil change but I had driven 7,000 miles on the oil and decided to change it anyway.

8 quarts of Mobil 1 0W40 at $5.67 ea.
Napa Filter w/ o rings #FIL1226 $11.99

Total with tax less than $60.

Oh ya I should mention that 8 quarts with a filter change puts me right on the full mark on the dipstick and the dash display also says "OK" for oil level. I drain my oil the conventional way by removing the drain plug and even jack the drivers side up slightly to be sure every last drop drains out the right side of the oil pan.

A year and a half ago I paid about $100 for oil and a filter. This past spring it was $160. I wouldn't have let them do it but there was a related mechanical issue I wanted checked and I just bit the bullet ... this time I'll do it. No more of that nonsense!

Pat were on earth did you go for that oil change! That's the most I've ever heard.

I'm doing them myself from now on... since the free oil changes from the dealer ran out.

Pat PM if your going to Burtonsville I need directions again!

I do mine myself...

I do find it humorous that the dealer sends me a card about 3 times a year that says they'll do $19.98 oil changes. Then in really small print at the bottom it says "excludes diesel, HEMI, and synthetic oil engines"! What's left?

Last year I paid $91 at the local dealership for my '04 coupe. This year I had the first oil change on my SRT6 at 2,100 mile's and it cost me $131, when I questioned the price I was told the price of the oil had went up considerably.

HA, no, but I should have. I'd do it myself, but I want to keep a good relationship with them since they are local. I had leased my '04 coupe from them and always took it to them for service because I didn't want any questions when the lease was up. It's about a 2 hour drive to where I bought my SRT6 and you know how dealerships can be if you didn't buy the car there, they about have to work on warranty issues, but they can not be friendly about it sometimes. So taking it to the local dealership for service may help in the long run just incase of warranty work.
