Default $840 for 23 HP and 22 Ft Lbs

Just ran across this...

http://www.bekkers.com/Merchant2/mer...&Category_Code=

Basically $840 for a gain of 23 horses and 22 foot lbs of torque.

Seems a little high priced for me...just thought others might be interested.

Probably the same generic Bosch ECU upgrade software that has been making the rounds and sold by a variety of vendors the past few years. Nothing wrong with it, more spark advance and more open-loop fuel makes more power but requires a certain minimum octane gas. Do they require you to pull out your ECU and send it off to 'em for the upgrade?

I sure wish there was a flash tuner you could plug into the OBDII port like the FoMoCo guys have !

I would still love to know about this link. Less than 1/2 the price of SI or Renntech.

Powerchip sells this for $690. I also saw someone selling it for around $400 in California which I found on one of the Mercedes forums. The best value I have seen for the modification is MTH software in Germany. Unfortunately he only seems to work with BMW and Mini Coopers. I used MTH on my Mini Cooper S and it cost $75. He email you a file and you upload it from a laptop with a special cable to hook up to the OBDII. MTH adds the timing and fuel stuff plus he moves the redline up and eliminates the top speed governor. We need to get this guy to work on Mercedes!

InMotion offers the same thing. They quoted a full custom ECU tune for the SRT-6 at $500 which included a new socket and chip, giving you your old chip back (still with stock parameters) or $400 without a new chip (flashing the existing one).

They were willing to tweak the parameters several times at that price (but you have to send them the ECU or just the chip if you get the socket modification) as every area of the country has different fuel stocks, altitudes etc..

If you have a wide-band Fuel/Air gauge installed or software to record the ECU data - they claim that they can nail it on the first or second tune.

I am considering PowerChip as they are local and can provide a custom tune at their facility. Might be worth the extra $$ if I don't install a F/A gauge.

I imagine by now - all the tuners know/have the parameters so it's just a matter of reputation and volume. the bigger the volume - the better chance they have of being in business down the road if you need to be re-flashed for some reason.

This is the response I received from them...

This is a Ecu Upgrade, and you will need to send it in to us for the Programming. This upgrade is totally safe and will not void any Manufactures Warranty and is Reversible if you like. This upgrade removes your speed limiter and naturally aspirates your Engine. Please feel free to contact me directly if I can answer any other questions or place an order for you.

Thanks

So just tell them you own a 2003 MB SLK320 when you send them your ECU.

I bet they never know the difference.

I wonder though if the tuners that charge more are "at your service" meaning that they will retune your chip for free when you add additional mods maybe? It'd be nice to assume that.

IS THIS ONLY FOR THE SRT-6 ONLY OR WILL IT BOOST THE POWER IN A REGULAR CROSSFIRE ALSO. HELL FOR $800 BUCKS I'D BUY 2 FOR 23 HP. THAT THE BORLA EXHAUST, AND THE SPRINT BOOSTER WILL PUT ME CLOSE TO 250 HP... IS THAT CORRECT?

If I recall correctly, the Borla has no published or proven gains.
The sprint booster does not add any HP, just better throttle response.

You can only FIT one ECU in your car.
You can have as many as you want under the hood, but you'll only benefit from one.

I spoke shortly with a rep from Renntech and a distributor for Kleemann about upgrades for our beloved SRT6. Both have pulley/ecu upgrades ava Renntech $2,995 for est. 40 HP and Kleemann $2,995 for est. 35 HP. Kleemann also has camshafts for $2,500 with an est. 25 HP gain.

My first question is does anyone have either upgrade on a SRT6?

Does the HP increase justify the cost (IYO)?

What are some pros and cons relating to these upgrades?

Thanks for some insight!

Here's a good right up. Steve's SRT smokes the road.

Can't go wrong with Renntech, expensive (they quoted me $3,300) so If they have come down I will give them another call.

Best name, best engineering - if you can afford it. I am sure with the performance gains you can always justify it.
