Default '04 Manual Coupe with Flowmaster 40 Delta Series

So, I had a Flowmaster 40 Delta Series installed last weekend. I think it sounds pretty good, but the resonance inside the car between 2,000 and 3,000 rpm is pretty bad. I'm going to try installing some dynomat in the trunk area to see if I can reduce the resonance. If that doesn't work, I'm going to swap out the Flowmaster for a Magnaflow. The first video here is a launch to about 80mph and the second video is a start up followed by some revving. Hopfully the links will work.

I have no muffler and I used dynamat across the back of the trunk(between tail lights) to cut the noise down. Works pretty well.

Switched out the Flowmaster muffler for a Magnaflow today. It's a much better sound, much less resonance inside. It sounds like it belongs on the car. All is good. Anyone interested in the Flowmaster muffler? If you like it loud, it's for you. I will sell it dirt cheap.

Can we get some audio of the magnaflow? Also, what type of mag did you put on there?

I've had the Magnaflow muffler on the car for a little more than 24 hours. I have fallen in love with the Xfire all over again. After I had the Flowmaster installed last weekend, I felt like I had turned my Xfire into a V6 Camaro, but now with the Magnaflow I think it's just right. Now, I believe that most people have the Magnaflow Cat-Back system. I just went with the muffler. The part number is 12158. I told the guy at the exhaust place that I thought most of the members on here had part number 14420, but he was sure that 12158 would work better. They got it installed with the factory tips and I can't argue with him. The biggest difference is inside the car. I can now listen to the radio again or talk to my wife between 2 and 3,000rpm. We went out this morning and blew about 5 bucks worth of gas making videos. Muffler and labor cost about $200. I want to say that it feels like it pulls just a smidgeon harder above 4,500rpm. Thats awesome!

I've been wondering for the longest time if it's going to be too loud, or to quite. Seems like the magnaflow is the one for me!

Yes, Thanks very much for the time and trouble to make the videos and write this post. I have been considering changing exhaust to get just a little more aggressive and racier sound from my 04' 6spd. - didn't want to waste a lot of $$$ getting something I wasn't happy with. Your's seems to have the sound I'm looking for...

Sorry if this sounds like a noob question, but did you just replace the muffler or did you replace anything else with it? I'm seeing that muffler online for $85-$115. Probably have it installed at a local muffler shop.

Question- What did they do in the way of fabrication to make this muffler fit???

They shortened the pipe from the cat to the muffler, because the Magnaflow is longer than the stock muffler. Also, they cut the tips completely off of the new Magnaflow and welded bigger diameter pipe onto it so they could properly fit the stock tips on. They charged about $70(US) for the labor.

Yes, just the muffler was replaced. We just went on a several hundred mile cruise this past weekend with a bunch of other Crossfires owners and everyone seemed to really like it.

If you don't want the stock tips welded back on, it's a lot less work. My shop spent about 90% of the time getting the tips on. It's a lot of work, but possible if they know what they're doing.

I wish I lived where you do because the pipe back to the cat not only needs to be shortened, it also requires bending- the stock muffler has a side inlet while this muffler is center inlet.
