Default And Even Another DIY Intake Installation..

I stopped by Auto Zone and noticed they had the 3" Spectre polished aluminum intake pieces. I bought a silicone coupler for the maf, a 90 degree, 45 degree, a 6" straight piece and the extended arm piece and a K&N Dry Filter. It was very easy to install. And I figure that the opening where the old plastic piece was in the front has enough outside air coming in to be a cold air intake system. And we've noticed a huge seat-of-the-pants difference! It pulls so much harder now with quicker response. Not sure how some people can't seem to notice a difference. I am very pleased with this and it only cost me $150. I had the battery disconnected for the hour it took to disassemble and install, plus did the TB adjustment before testing her out. I even removed the rear cat's a few days ago and the combo is enough to keep me smiling for awhile. So whenever I get a few more bucks to spend, I'll be sure to get the upgraded HE and Johnson pump and then a tune. Are the stock plugs ok with this setup or should I get cooler ones? I'm thinking the cooler plugs would be needed if I go with an upgraded SC or crank pulley.

Is that really a "cold air" intake? Looks like it'll suck up more hot air from the engine bay then the stock setup?!?!

It'll suck up hot air indeed if the car isn't moving. When it is moving, there is enough air coming in through the opening where the original setup was, so plenty of outside air hitting it. I've always had cars setup like this and have never noticed a difference on dyno's either. Seat of the pants don't lie and I've been modding cars since 1973. Besides, it helps keep the filters dryer during those storms. I still refuse to ever pay way too much money for cold air intakes when they only consist of 1 aluminum pipe and 1 filter. My butt dyno is all the proof I will ever need. Who knows, I may still add another piece to put the filter in front. It depends what mood I may be in at the time. LOL! I dynoed the car before this upgrade, so when I dyno again, I'll see what HP gains I got out of this. I'll try to dyno when the temp is about the same as it was to keep the comparison fair.
