Question What happens when it rains with a CAI ?

I now have a CAI installed and I am wondering what will happen when I am driving in the rain. With the air filter just behind the grill it looks like it would pick up a lot of water. Will that harm anything?

I can't speak for all the CAI's that are out there........

I've been running a NeedsWings CAI for quite a while now......at one time at the end of winter I took my car to a do-it-yourself carwash. I left the car running and proceeded to spray the hell outta the filter....not intentionally, I just forgot it was there! Fearing the worst, I pulled the end of the tube apart............not a drop of water anywhere.

If you have a NeedsWings CAI....the only way you're going to have a problem in the rain is if you drive into a lake!

Thanks, mine is like the Needswing's but I made it myself.
I have a Spectra filter and because it is the oil type it might help repel the water.

you could always install a bypass valve just to be careful if you are that worried about it..

Nothing happens.
Needswings has tested theirs for months - same concept as their SRT intake.
I've driven in hard rain and no effects at all.
Do a search, it's been covered.

you can always buy a pre-filter. its like a very fine screen that goes over you filter and blocks most water out! its made just for this reason. check out my gallery you can see a pic of it on my filter.

The pre-filter (or sock), will reduce the amount of air ingested by the engine, therefore, robbing you of a horse or two.

difference isnt even noticable. i would say 1/10 of a sec if even that? plus with my intake setup i can remove it very easy by just popping open the fog light access hole. i usually only have it on when i see clouds rolling in.

Yup, got the Needswings system and have not had any problems with the inclement weather.
