Which Mobil 1?
A lot of the SRT 8 owners are now using the Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel 0-40w oil. Seems the specs changed 3 or 4 years back and the new formulation is SM while the older formulation was SL. The reason for the change, apparently, was for emission purposes. So, who on this forum is using the 0-40 Turbo Diesel oil? The SRT 8 guys believe it is far superior and I'm considering using it in the xfire.

Found this searching around. Seems its approved by Mercedes.

Automobile manufactures have lobbied (and governments have mandated) to reduce the levels of zinc dithiophosphate and phosphorus in motor oils to increase the service life of catalytic converters.
They are highly effective as an extreme pressure anti-wear additive. However, it's probably not overly critical on our SOHC motors as they are equipped with roller-tipped rocker arms, where most wear from the lower ZDDP concentrations manifests itself.
Current Mobil 1 specifications and approvals:

I heard Porsche people were the first to notice the change. Problems with the cams.
I see 0-40 Turbodiesel is not listed by Mobil. I guess the most common is the 5-40w. I'll most likely use the supersyn 0-40 but perhaps some of the more modified cars would benefit from the extra heat and pressure protection. (They already ditched the cats anyway)
