Default Emulsion In The Oil Cap

Anyone else experiencing it? I don't think I have a bad head gasket nor am I short on any coolant so I should be fine. I figure its just the fact that I don't drive long enough to properly heat the engine up. I'm not too worried about it but should I maybe drive the car around for abit of a longer trip from time to time in order to get rid of it?

If you don't drive the car much, could be condensate, but I'd for sure keep an eye on the coolant tank !!!

Another good place to look for emulsion or rust is on the insde of the oil dipstick cap.

I don't like the looks of that. I'm gonna go google "how to tell if oil is mixing with water in my car" or something like that. I'll post back if I find anything. I thought there was a kit you could use to check for this. I remember way back when you could have your oil analyed to see what was in it. Don't do that anymore 'cause I sold all my muscle cars .

Ok, in my quick google search, I found a comapny, EliteETC.com, that if I read it right, looks like they can analyze oil for $15. Google baby, Google! I love Google. Quick story, off topic, but when I was looking at XF's to test drive/purchase, the sales guys always tried to pressure me into buying their cars. I always told them, "Look. I'm not buying a car today without further research. My last BBQ I bought, I researched for 8 weeks before making a final decision, I'm certainly not buying a car without more research on your car". Ok, back to the subject at hand. TY. LOL

what is your climate like? temp, humidity?

I would pull a valve cover and take a peak inside.

I had it on a GMC engine 4.3L V six. By the time I found the cause the engine was ruined and had to be rebuilt. All the sludge had filled the oil channels and stopped lubrication to vital areas. It was the gaskets under the heads. It was a slow leak, but very damaging. Good luck, do not drive it until you find the cause. I do not think it is low milleage driving.

Condensate is not highly unusual, however as suggested I would pull a valve cover and check underneath.

Taking the valve cover sounds like quite a hassle, I'm gonna look into having my oil analyzed. I'm in Chicago and it recently started getting ultra cold. When I opened the oil fill in cap the engine note did change abit after a few seconds, not sure if thats related.

I've used Blackstone Labs for oil analysis on my Nissan Altima since I bought it new in Dec '06.

They are very quick with getting the results back to you after doing the tests, and the writing is very easy to understand.

you could try using a by-pass filter from FRANTZ. it uses a paper roll, which absorbes about 1 cup of water, thus drying your oil for lower acidity and better filtration. http://www.wefilterit.com/

Warm engine, then drain oil and change the filter. Repeat a few weeks later if you want to be really thorough.

Can't help you with what it is but I can tell you I too drive short distances, only 9300 miles on my 05 and no emulsion. I've done 3 oil changes so far.
