Corrosion on Battery Terminal
Ok so I was changing my air filters the other week and noticed some white corrosion on the neg battery post. i disconnect the battery, cleaned it up and put some terminal "butter" on the connector and the battery post then put the cable back on. I was looking under the hood this weekend and noticed the white corrosion is back. '05 with 50K miles and original battery. is my battery about to go? i've never seen this before.
The case could actually be cracked around the post, or the post itself may be loose, causing the acid to leach around the post. Remove the battery and clean it and the tray area with battery acid neutrilizer (or just use baking soda/water). Check the post area very well and reinstall if nothing obvious is found.
I just had to do all of that when I forgot the trickle charger was on and acid leaked out the vent tube. I was more concerned with the battery box and underneath area than with the battery itself.

i just stopped by a place called specialty battery here in greenville, sc. they have their own name brand made by exide. they had the crossfire size in stock - $73.00 with a 18 month full replacement and 75 month pro-rated. i went for it since i felt like mine was on it's last leg. perfect fit. they installed while i waited. $78.20 out the door. i felt like it was a good deal.
