Default Replacing the Fuel Filter

Ok so I want to replace the fuel filter on my XF. Not as simple as many of the cars I've had before so calling on the experience of everyone here...

Couple of questions:

  • http://homepage.mac.com/gregmeach/XFire/Xfire_Repair_14-FuelSys.pdf Note, this link explains the maintenance and repair procedure for anything associated with fuel on the XF. My question is this: Is it possible to release the pressure in the system without a DRB IIIT scan tool and is it possible to do it without throwing Diagnostic errors. Note that step seven of the procedure is this 7. One or more Diagnostic Trouble Codes may have been stored in PCM memory due to fuel pump fuse removal. The DRB IIIT scan tool must be used to erase a DTC
  • If it does throw errors how do I remove them without the scan tool?
  • Major dumb question...after instalation is there a 're-pressurising' procedure or is it just hook everything back up and the fuel pump does the rest?
  • And finally, is a generic filter (say a ryco z626) as good as OEM fuel filter. Should I stick with OEM here or would it make no difference.
Any advice would be greatly appriciated Thanks Heaps!

changing the fuel filter does not require a DRB, nor does it throw error codes.

theres no repressuring procedure after the filter change. you may have to hold the key for a little longer to get it to start though.

ive always gotten OE replacement filters; couldnt find anything aftermarket the first time i did it, and i havent looked for one since. $100 once a year? its worth it.

Thanks Rob, really appreciate your input. I'd really like to go OEM for the filter but it's like $250 for one here in Australia...dunno why. Cheapest I can find after market is $160 odd dollars for a ryco z626. Apparently Ryco have been making them for a year and a half now. Hope the quality is comparable....

Great to know that it doesn't throw error codes, that's the piece of mind I was hoping for.

Cheers
Josh

I don't know about the shipping charges to Down-Under, but check out Rock Auto for aftermarket parts.

Just replaced mine last week. It was fairly simple with the exception of the lines being stuck on the filter. I had to wrestle with them for a while. Make sure you have some new hose clamps. You can release fuel pressure under the hood on the right front of the engine at the end of the fuel rail. Just unscrew the cap and press the relief...make sure you have some goggles on ha ha ha.
