2004 Crossfire Front Engine Oil Leak
Greetings,
My 2004 Chrysler Crossfire w/ 65k has developed an oil leak somewhere in the front of the engine. It is so bad that the alternator belt slipped off. Does anyone have knowledge of this type of oil leak with Crossfires and whether it is going to be a major expense? - Thx!

Look around the oil fill cap or the oil filter cap mine did the same the other day....the oil ring broke on my cap and it leaked all over the belt and front of the engine ....also 60k 04 coupe
Question: have you had an oil change recently?
If so, then it might be the O-rings on the filter stem are not seated properly or missing and/or the cap seal is shot or, heck, maybe even the cap is loose!

Y'know, I was just thinking yesterday. I got an oil change from one of those lube places about 10 months ago and while driving the car later that day thought I smelled oil. I figured it was oil on the manifold or something so I let it go. Shortly after, I thought I noticed oil drops in the driveway. This could be the result of something very old and the lube place not being familiar with my car (even thought they said they were).
I've changed the oil on many cars but not a Crossfire. Please tell me. To change the oil in a Crossfire, is there more to do than just unscrew the bolt on the bottom of the pan and change the filter?
Thx!

I'm glad to see that you made it over here from the Car Talk forums!
As for the oil filter leak, which it sounds like it might in fact be, it is rather easy to do.
The oil filter isn't the typical metal can spin on type.
Rather, it is a filter element that is inside of a plastic screw off housing.
So what you have to do is unscrew the plastic housing, then remove that plastic housing.
Attached to the housing is the filter element.
You then need to separate it, and install the new one, making sure to replace all the o-rings that are included in the oil filter box, to which there might be several.
If you want a better look, I believe there is a good thread on this forum about how to perform the oil and filter change. In fact, here it is:

This should give you a good idea how to get the leak resolved.
BC.
I let an " Iffy Lube" service my XFi about a year ago and they just spilled oil all over the front of my motor. Sadly, I drove it home before I noticed the mess. It came out of the grill and evrything. I do my own oil changes now.
