Exclamation oil leak??

I have yet to get under the car, but I have noticed some oil on the floor in the garage. It is time for an oil change, so I will get a better look, when I do it. The car has 60000 miles on it, or around there. Are there common areas to look for. Where are good spots to put jack stands with out bending anything, for an oil change? I was going to build ramps for my old cobra, but had access to a lift then. Do any of you guys have a good place to get oil, and filter, other than local parts store? thanks, chris
and it is 8.5 quarts right?
I plan on using the recommended 0w40, but is there another oil that is just as good. When I bought the car used I had the dealer get the oil changed, as he didn't know when it was changed last. The oil that came out was very dark, and the rinky dink shop he sent me to tried to put in 5w30, and said that you can put anything in there. Since my oil is still pretty clear after 6000 miles, I assume that there was a lower grade of oil in the car to begin with, or hadn't been changed in a long time. thanks again.

Check your valve covers and breather plates, these are the most common. 8.5qts is correct for filter change.

Check your oil filter. I had a leak that had the front the engine wet. Did not look like the filter was an issue until further review and degreasing.

Now, for what oil to use:

You can use whatever oil you want, as long as it meets either the MB 229.3 or 229.5 standards. These standards come in either 0W-40 or 5W-40 weights.

Lots of oil companies out there that make oils that meet these standards.

Mobil
Kendall
Pennzoil
Valvoline
Quakerstate
Castrol
Shell

Those are just a few companies that make oils that meet the standards.
Some people are going to tell you that you should only ever use Brand X.
Just use whatever you want, that meets your own actual tastes, and is within your budget.

BC.

In regards to oil color, I change my oil based on FSS around 7000 miles. I have only used 0-40 and a fleece oil filter and the oil shows no sign of color change or being black in color. Just my 2 cents.

is it cheaper to order oil and filters online? I am sure that the jo blow mechanic installed the cheapest flter. I have made it one year roughly 6500 miles, so I would rather get the right stuff, If I am going to change it. will the local auto parts store carry the proper flannel filter. The 0w40 oil hasn't been on shelves until the last year. any suggestions on proper jack stand placement? thanks, chris
