What's the average price for an oil filter
I just bought two oem oil filters for 32.50 a piece and wanted to know if I got ripped off? Overall I needed them and was forced to buy them, but for future reference what is the average price for a fleece filter?
Also the filters that I picked up are part number 05102905AB.
At this time I'm driving an 05 SRT6 with under 26k on in. This will be my first oil change for this car as I just purchased it two weeks ago. I already have all the other equipment for an oil change and am set to go but paying close to $70 for just the filters has me thinking now.
I just had the dealer flush the tranny with new fluid for about $300 and after this oil change I plan on doing a brake fluid flush, then a coolant flush in the next couple of days. It's a super clean car and I want her the freshest for my piece of mind. Anything else I should do or look into?
Thanks for the input,
Ron

I believe these are the paper filters just as the old 05102905AA were.
The MB number is on my one (AA) and it is A 112 184 0325, buy your filters from somewhere else, even MB is cheaper that the Chrysler dealers.
And get the fleece filters, they are a bit more costly but ...
Fleece filters look like this.

I just bought 2 filters from Amazon.com. They are K&N #HP7004 (fleece filters) specifically for our SRTs. Price was $35.90 for 2, and free shipping.
I'd take yours back and get your $$$$ back...there are threads on the forum that will get you info on filters people use, or have used, just make sure they are fleece... most of them are Mann filters just repackaged... just my $.02
Edit: also ... Farm and Fleet has a sale NOW till 8/1/10 for Mobil1 0-40 for $30 for a case of
EDIT: LMAO ... just realized you live on Long Island, NY .... not many Farm and Fleets there! LOLOLOL

This is the filter that I purchased.
It has "Mercedes-Benz Original" plastered all over the box and the filters even say that they're mann filters on the top of them. So is this the right fleece filter or not?

I think the Mann Fleece filter should have the #7078 some where in the product numbers? Anybody elses opinion???
edit: I do see a part of a 708 i the upper left corner of the label??????

Yes it's the correct "fleece" filter, however you paid more than you need to. Same filter in Purolator box is a third of the price.
Thanks for the quick replys guys. In the end you live and you learn, that's what I'm doing now. At least I get the mobil synthetic really cheap so that will offset the costs. But in the future the oem fleece filters are the same as which purolator filter(Part number)?
Now I'm off to do an oil change, Hopefully I don't screw up anything!

As previously pointed out, last night I bought two of the Purolator L25277 filters with the five 'O' rings for $11.99 each plus tax at Advance Auto. They also carry Mobile-1 0W40 for $7.99 /quart. I did notice that when the parts guy plugged in an 05 SRT, the part recommended was the L25276 and not the 77.
Just an FYI...

Are you from NYC? If so, you can canvass for the average price in the local repair stores because the cost for change of oil and oil filter varies from shop to shop and state to state. It also depends on which engine you are talking about.

16 bucks at my Mercedes dealer? I guess they can charge what they want. Don't know what Mercedes parts online would charge? That might be another source for you.
