Default Oil filter query

I have been looking on Ebay for Crossfire oil filters, I have noted that there appear to be two types, one a filter with a set of O rings and sump plug washer, and the other a throw away canister. My car is ans 04 model. and it has what appears to be a throw away canister, or is it a cover for the other type of filter. Can anyone tell me which is correct.

That black plastic cap is kept, not thrown out with the filter cartridge. Get a fleece filter not paper, do a search and you can find lots of threads on this matter. The filter comes with O rings and sometimes a washer. Its best to change the washer for the sump plug, at the price the oil is you do not want to waste it drip by drip.

Roy - Skip e-bay and buy from needswings.com here on our forum. He's got the correct fleece filters & crush washers.

That's what I'm using now. The ones I bought at NAPA don't have MANN printed on them yet say "Made in Germany". They look exactly like the MANN filters I was using.

Roy, stay away from a canister filter!

You should probably go to the forum sponsor, but if not, Advance Auto has Purolator L25277's that are German-made Fleece filters. I paid $11.49 each.

(They also have an L25276 that is a paper filter - I would not use it.)

Are you using the 7078 part number? The 1226 are paper filters.

Oil filter 7078 from NAPA is this the correct oil filter? Found 0W 40 mobil oil in Walmart today. I thought they stopped making it. Is there a special way to put the filter in? Do the seals go in a certain way? Should I buy the oil filter somewhere else other than NAPA? Thanks Ron

Thanks, I go back a few years when oil filters were on the bottom screw in can. I'll have to look for this one. Ron
