This one is a centrifigal supercharger which is basically a belt driven turbo. I had considered this type of boosting and had pretty much ruled it out. One of the problems with boosting a n/a engine is compression that limits the amount boost as well as the heat of the charged air. superchargers really heat the air. One thing nice about a rear mount turbo is the charge is much cooler by the time it gets to the engine. Adding an intercooler isn't usually even needed in a rear turbo. A cooler charge allows more boost and HP. A rear mount turbo probably has the greatest HP potential and may be the cheapest way to go as well.

Another option is HPS generation 1 or 2 superchargers. They are nice units but their reputation is not so good right now and people are selling them cheap. From what I have been able to read the supercharger are fine but tuning is not. HPS uses a rising rate fuel pump to keep the engine from leaning out but guys have blown a few engines and dumping the kits cheap. I am tempted to buy one of those units and tune it properly. The rear mount turbo and the tuning approach that Rudy and I have in mind would be applicable to any n/a V6 as well and would be very cost effective.

Max!! Good to see you on here. The Lorinsor should work just fine. Max, you may also want to consider the Kleeman link as well. I talked to the guy today and have decided to go a little different route.

I spoke to Andrew Atwood in Airizona at Atwood European and like what they are doing with their system. What do you guys think of this? Super charged normally aspirted 55. This system will go right on your car MAX and the tuner has guys in the USA and Germany with proven software for your 55 and my 500.

Are you talking about the engine cover/filters? the nose piece is from the original engine cover. this is an early n/a E55. The air filters are SL55 I believe. The red center thing is a supercharger with a top mounted air to water inter cooler. It has a SL55 heat exhanger in front of the radiator.

I am going with the super charger in the picture. It is based on the HPS system. HPS had trouble with tuning in the past as well as some DIY'ers that didn't install it correctly causing some blown engines. This has cuased a lot of negativity on the MB forums. They changed tuners are a couple of years ago tp top German tuner for the ECU work. The advantage to me is that the Germans have installed some V8"s in SLK's in Germany and have fixed the key start issue. Atwood is a HPS dealer but has done a lot additional developement work to really get the power up safely. One improvement is in the picture above which is a very large heat exchcanger that allows more boost.

I really liked the Tubo idea but this set up is clean, proven and doesn't require near the fabrication work of a one off turbo set up. Also the support from Atwood is very valuable to me as well. With the right mods I could get into the mid 400HP range at the wheels. One key mod will be long tube headers which add about 40hp on this set up.

Awesome! My friend lives right near the shop in Arizona, they always have a sick setup of cars being worked on,... at least when I was out there. I think this will be a better set up than the stock 55K engine as far as money spent.. Good Luck Bro! cant wait till you have this finished
