Default Interesting smell at 100 mph +

Sometimes when I am very happy, I give it a little gas and hit triple digits.

I noticed that when I do so, I get an interesting smell, guessing from the engine bay somwhere. Its very hard to describe. I guess that its a burning of something, but I have no idea what it is since there are no leaks of any kind or there is no increase in engine temp and no smoke.

I smelled the exact same thing when other cars in front of me accelerate hard and pull away. I never had this is any of my German cars on the autobahn, thats why I am suspicious.

Anyone else know this sensation?? Just wondering.

Does it smell a little like eggs? That seems to happen sometimes when you get on the gas with these guys if they have just been putt-putting around. If it was an older car I would think it was a carbon build-up. Not sure what it is, but lots of people have mentioned it without any negative effects. Goes away after a little bit - just stay at 100mph longer!

The oil level dip stick is known to leak at the top under hard driving. There is a how to on this site for crimping the tube to tighten the seal at the top of the dip stick.

check your valve covers for leaks...never had the dip stick, or oil filter housing to leak...but....you probably are smelling some burnt oil....my roadster did this until I fixed the valve cover...now I need to work on the coupe...

Its the smell of the cats. When they heat up they emit this burning egg smell, its common on all modern vehicles if you get on it for long periods of time/hard acceleration

Perfect description!!! Thank you! Good to know that I am not the only one with this sensation.

Yeah I think keeping it at higher speeds will make the smell go away, but there is no where out here where I can do so without going to jail.....

I need laser jammers....mhm........

I have this happen quite often, Kim hates it. Would removing the secondary cats fix this? I hear they're redundant anyways, since there's no sensor behind them.

Plus, I might free up a pony or two.

Maybe its a milage thing.......

The more milage, the more unburnt composites maybe.

I need a long piece of straight road where no one sees me. God I miss the Autobahn right now!!
