As we continue to try new things we continue to learn and make breakthroughs. Not everything written on this subject is still valid as our options continue to change.
I have been doing a lot of research and talking to some smart and reputable tuners that are also making breakthroughs. As of today this is what I have learned about boosting our engines. In most cases the mechanical work isn't the problem. The tuning is the challenge.
1. Adding the factory supercharger
There are a lot of other parts you need besides just the s/c. The additional parts can get expensive if you have to buy them new. Besides getting all of the s/c parts, you will most likely have to change the front timing cover and make a smaller pulley to reduce the boost to be compatible with 10:1 copression. Speedriven (who Rudy reccomends) has told me they can tune this set up. They even sent me a link to a great deal on a MB s/c this week.
2. Swap engine for SRT-6/SLK32/C32 engine.
This may be the most ecconomical route and and Rudy has the ability to program the Kompressor ECU to your car.
3. Atwood European / Phoenix AZ
Atwood has bought plenums from HPS and is putting kits together for V8's. He mentioned to me that he can cut the plenum down for a V6. HPS was basically killed by their tuner but the hard parts were very good. Attwood's tuner has perfected the tune and rather than the original rising rate fuel pump, Atwood uses no such system or piggy back tuning. They do all tuning in your stock ECU. There big breakthrough is the ability to teach the stock ECU to read boost.
Turbos and Centrifugal s/c's
This is more of a build your own kit deal. The easiest would be a rear mount turbo. Tuning would be with an AEM IFC-6. This is an attractive option from a bang for your buck perspective. Everything you need can be purchased for about $3,000 including the AEM. Unless you can get help tuning the AEM you are on your own. This is still not completly proven but Web3.0 on this site is getting very close. Once he has this perfected he may make kits available.
V8's
Of course you could always do what I did and drop in a 500 engine. Your new baseline will be SRT performance and some change. And a whole bunch of future potential. A n/a 55 engine is a great cost effective chioce as well and will scare the crap out of most normal people. If you are totally insane then there is no substitute for Rudy's 55K Crossfire!
