I love how my Ansa sounds, but I have never been happy with the way the OEM tips look, tacked onto the back of the muffler. They aren't totally straight, and the old rings still exist from where the much larger Ansa tips once rested.

Also, I'm not convinced that the Ansa flows any more than the OEM... it's louder, but the design is an inlet into an open cavity, two resonating pipes, and another void before exiting. Not to mention, due to the length of the Ansa, there is a sharp 90° elbow before the inlet.

With the Dynomax VT, they have an offset inlet (same as OEM) with a single center exit. I'm going to utilize the tip that James found (Wicked Flow) and see what happens. The VT series is supposed to have no drone, low noise under light load, but roar at WOT and flow much more than the Ansa.

The version I plan to use is the 17156 (shown above)


Sound at WOT should be comparable to the Megan Racing twin muffler, as flow will be unimpeded.

I have the Megan Racing muffler on my base coupe and the only thing I don't like about it is that it has a Y split and so the dude that put it on for me had to bend a piece of pipe to get it to fit (which I think I can attribute the occasional popping sound when downshifting at low speeds).

The valve thing they designed seems like a cool idea... I notice a lot of drone from the Megan Racing muffler (mostly at low RPM or around freeway speeds of ~60-70 mph in 6th gear) so it would be cool if that could be eliminated...but if you've seen my gallery... you know that I can't hear $h!t when I turn my stereo up so that's not really an issue for me.

My question to you is... how much does it cost to be the guinea pig..

 

I love Dynomax mufflers. I had one on my Stratus Coupe and it sounded PERFECT. If you decide to go through with it, let us know how it turns out. I'm subscribed.

 

Muffler is $100, tip is $60 so whatever piping needed to be built including a flange connector will probably come to around $300 installed.

 

That's a really good price! I paid ~$240 total to get my muffler shipped and installed.

John, I can say that I am glad you are undertaking this because I have been contemplating the Megan for a while. I had magnaflow on the last car and liked it, but a little droney at times.

Do you have a picture of the tip you are thinking about? I have a cadillac dealer right by my house and there are some tips on the new CTS coupe that I think you could turn over and they would fit perfectly and look AMAZING. I need to do some measuring

 

I know the exact tip you're thinking of... It's beast but you'll most likely have to order it new from Cadillac and since it's a limited application, it won't be cheap....

I thought the same thing the other day. The new CTS have some crossfire-esque tips that could most liikely be made to fit nicely.

...I really want someone to make CF tips. With the black car I think it would look nice.

...or someone can go ***** to the way and create a titanium exhaust like they've done witih other cars like th GT-R. Holy hell that would be expensive though.

 

Titanium would be great, but worth more than the NADA value of the car. Akrapovic comes to mind.... $10K for a full system

The early VT series Dynomax mufflers apparently had rattling issues... the latest batch (post November 2010) has the issue resolved. It was all the fault of the supplier of the valves... different supplier = no more noise.

Someone's mission, if they choose to accept it, is to source us a part number for the CTS-V Coupe exhaust tip.

 

The CTS-V thats parked by my house has round tips, the standard model has the squared off guys, I believe. Unless this particular car has an exhaust system, but I doubt it because it is brand new on the dealer lot....

 

Okay, so the standard model.

Either way... we need someone with insider info for GM like I have with Nissan. Numbers, drawings, etc...
