Default Spark Plugs and Throttle Body

Guys,

My 2004 Cupe has about 95,000 km on it. My dealer is saying that the spark plugs should be replaced (12 plugs) at a cost of $514.00. As well, he recommends "tuning" the throttle body, as part of a "Tune Up". The only real maintenance that i've done is oil changes. Does this make sense?

The plugs should be done but $500 is an amazing dealership rip off. If you have any mechanical ability at all, you can change them your self in a couple hours and yes there are 12 plugs. Cleaning the throttle body is just a rag and a $5 spray can of throttle cleaner from any parts store. If you can't do the work yourself, call around your area and get some quotes for a tune up (ask what is included in the tune up) should cover both the plugs and thottle body for 1/2 what the dealership is stating.

Should the ignition cables be replaced as well?

Woodys old plug trick #17.

Use a 6" section of rubber 3/8 Id fuel line or similar tubing to loosen the plugs and start the new ones AFTER you break them loose. THe rubber hose covers the top of the plug and grasps it so you can loosen and pull // install new plug with a minimum of hassel and tears.

#18 Always add thread anti seeze compound on bolts especially plugs when doing reassembly, youll love the results next time.

ENJOY< Woody
