Download the 2005_Crossfire_SRT6_Service_manual.pdf ( you can find it elsewhere on this forum ).

Check section 25-26

Crossfire SRT6 Documentation Collection

( I know it says 'SRT6', but mostly applies to all. )

Its number 2 in the diagram. On the back side of the engine near the firewall. Never had mine off to say how tough it is to replace.

What or who says it needs replacing? We'd like to know for the record anyway.

To be consistent it is best to keep all your posts in one place. You started this topic in another thread but now to most it appears to be a fresh problem.

I checked your prior posts and I found your initial post and the previous replies.

Do you have any codes set in memory? Your answer may lie there.

OK, my EGR did need replacing as it threw a code (which? I forget). On one of a rubber hoses connected to it there's a black cap that doesn't seem to go anywhere.

Question ... does it connect to anything?

I can only see the two rubber hoses as shown in the picture above. The 'U' shaped hose seems to plug back into the plug base somehow. But I do not know what you get as a unit when you buy a new unit. They are the only rubber hoses I see, there is the steel one on top of course.

Your description sounds accurate. The cap was tucked down out of site. The replacement is an exact match of the original. I've attached a couple of pics. I'm hoping it a breather.

OK, I see it now and it goes nowhere as you say.
What symptoms did you have if any, that made you replace the EGR valve?

I had no (real) symptoms. I took the car to the stealer for an oil change. I mentioned it had stalled on me a few times and threw a CEL. Turned out it was the CPS and they also said I needed a new EGR ... all for the low low price of $998.00. That's how I stumbled upon the forum (while looking for parts).

I'd still be interested in what that cap is

To me it looks like a one way valve of some kind.

It is amazing how stealerships can find you need parts that you did not know you needed.

Stay on this forum and you will save money.

You're a funny guy! Once I found the forum and saw by doing those two repairs myself I would save $800+, I looked at ways to spend the savings ... (DCAI 1st) ... haven't stopped spending and having a blast!

You're right, it is a Check valve and goes nowhere. I've had my egr off several times and it is a snap. For future reference, you need to unbolt the fuel rail and pull up the passenger side slightly to get to one bolt. In fact, the hole thing is easier if you pull the closest injector (the connector at bare minimum) Other than that, a crescent wrench for the egr tube, 2 bolts, and you're done!
