Default Code3 vs. 178 pulley

Well fellow forum members. Today I got a lengthy log at the track with the 178 pulley. For prosperity here are the boost numbers at my altitude and conditions.

Aluminum 3rd. generation Code 3 supercharger pulley. Highest boost recorded on my car.

17.9

178 ASP pulley from Needswings. Highest boost recorded on my car.

19.7

I'm hoping to get a new dyno as well, but fate is working against me lately.

Prosperity? That is not the word to use with the amount of money you spend on your toy. LOL

Spell checker didn't like posterity. And since I'm speaking more spanish than english, well ..... OOPS! I bought the 178 because the Code 3 was going supernova.

Frankly, my butt dyno preferred the Code3 until I saw the boost numbers. Now to take the butt out of the picture and get a new dyno done.

Doesn’t the 178 also add load by spinning the alternator, water pump and steering pump faster? Does this extra load cause an equaling effect when compared to the Code 3?

it was a given on the m/b forums that the 178 was a bit better in terms of torque and hp but the tradeoff was the c3 was close and easier to install with no parasitic loss. also i have seen 19 psi on a cold day with my c3, but avg is closer to 17

Along with the 178 I installed the required water pump pulley and Rob's pulley saver kit. What wasn't changed was the alternator pulley, power steering and a/c pulley. I haven't seen anyone else go from a Code 3 to a 178 and post the boost numbers. Today at the track the temperature was 90º so no cold weather influence.

New update. Same tune. The dyno I did today gave me 319 ft lbs. of torque and 339 hp. with the cutouts closed. Best prior dyno with the cutouts closed was 302 ft lbs. of torque and 323 hp. Best prior dyno with the cutouts open was pre tune and was 310 ft lbs of torque and 321 hp. I did a 1/4 mile run which showed more hp and torque because my rev limiter is set to (I'm not sure) and all the prior dynos went to 5998. I'll post up a picture later. Just wanted to share for POSTERITY.

Velociabstract,

If I am reading the numbers correctly, you are saying that the 173 gave you an additional 17 ft lbs. of torque and 16 hp over the C3? That seems like a lot. I do like that the C3 was a simple install but you got me thinking now.

I've been thinking about the numbers myself. Along with the 178 pulley I installed the pulley saver kit from Needswings. I never saw any indication of the belt slipping with the Code3 but maybe it was. I've read on an otherwise stock motor the difference is 7 hp more or less. I'm not stock. For me the 178 has been a big step up in power. It's worth mentioning that I replaced the Code3 because it was falling apart. My decision was between replacing it with the Eurocharged pulley or a crank pulley.

Gotcha! I just installed the PSK myself and it seems to pull harder(maybe it was slipping a little) but I also just installed the wavetrac so who knows!

I am going to Eurocharged to get a dyno tune in May so I will pass along the numbers. While I don't have a before and after with the PSK, I can at least see the boost and hp/torque numbers.
