dual cai vs cai
Was searching the forum for a DIY and some more info on the topic but i didn't really see much or I didn't search long enough
So I'm Just wondering which provides more gains ? A single Cai or dual Cai?
Obviously dual would mean more air and more air better combustion
But is it really worth it to buy a a dual Cai over just a single, intake systems I know don't provide that big of a gain but would dual cold air intakes provide a significant difference?
Thanks
And if there is a DIY on the install could I get a link ?

An automatic NA car can cut nearly a 1/2 a sec. off its 1/4 mile with a NeedsWings single CAI.
That's a significant amount time.
I think the general consensus here is the NA cars don't need a dual intake, but the SRT's can get more out of it.

I remember commenting on the thread where the XF with a single CAI beat your SLK with its twin CAI.
I just didn't want to hurt NeedsWings sales, (of dual CAI's) that's all.
Thanks guys , I'm gonna be gettin an NA the srt (although I love boosted cars) isnt for me
Too expensive and in that price range I would just get an Audi s4
But the Cai will be my first engine mod
Seems like a dual Cai won't be necessary for me..now all I need is a DIY

If you are buying a new CAI from Rob ( Needswings ), then it comes with instructions.
If you are buying a used one, please be aware there are 2 different versions.
The original one has a bung in the 3" tube for the IAT/MAF sensor and a 90 deg bend that connects to a 90 deg rubber/silicon sleeve that then connects to the throttle body.
The later version uses a plastic piece to hold the sensor between the TB and the 3 " tube.
I have the original one - take a look at my gallery.
You can see the new one on the Needswings site.
The only difficult part of the install is removing the plastic piece by the radiator that the old engine cover plastic pipe connected to ......
NOTE: bite the bullet and replace the 68mm TB with a 74mm one at the same time like I did, then get the tune.
( you can also get a C320 engine cover to hide the naked engine, if that bothers you )

Extend it through the radiator mount..
another tidbit:

"while theres no arguement the needswings dual cai is a top notch first rate product you have forgotten an inexpensiive alternative that produces almost as much power as the n/w dual cai and can be had for around 500$. thats the sl55/e55 dual cai setup. looks factory and with k&n filters delivers the goods!"

What's wrong with the 68 mm ? Like my op how much of a gain is received after upgradeing?
Getting a tune on the other hand will be way later in the life off the car
But thanks i was actually gonna ask what type mb engine cover fits the xf I just assumed the slk one would work

But after amx's post I have decided after getting my new baby she will receive a single cai which I assume is cheaper haven't even looked at prices yet
My SRT has a dual CIA and my daughter's SRT has a single CIA. I consistently run .01-.02 faster then her in the 1/4 mile. This is over a couple of years running aroud 50 times. Both have 181 pullies and the exact same tune.
Single for the win.
I started with the NW single. Removed it and installed the SL55 intake. Removed it and installed the Dual NW intake. Removed it and installed the Single NW. Long road traveled to be where I started.
Regardless of whether you buy Rob's or build your own, I think the single is the way to go for your setup.

Oh... and is this the way the forum is really supposed to work? Discuss things and options without going to war? LOL.

This will be quite the job after doing some more searching I was thinking of having a short ram intake custom made by...well myself
But read somethings and changed my mind , then I was skimming a thread and saw a set up of the filter itself being infront of the radiator which looks cool but looks like it would be difficult to install
Doing the Cai on my vw was simple of course It's a 4cylinder with alot of space in the bay
Thanks for all the inputs
Btw what's "NW" mean ?

Lot's of reply's in a short time. I've had the single and dual and currently have the dual. If you want the best and have the money, for day to day use I'd say the dual. The dual gives a bit more power under the curve while the single and dual are equal in peak power. For racing when your always at high rpm the single is KISS. (keep it simple stupid) I can make a case for either one. It's not an easy call until you know exactly how your going to use your car, what you want comes into play too. Look at your budget and make your choice. Both get the job done much better than the stock system.

You did notice I didn't say it was "better" than a single CAI. I just said the supercharged cars got more out of it.

as for the races to set the record straight my car shut down during the race at max rpm due to a bad tcu mod. in a second race i short shifted and evened the score. apples to apples
