Yesterday, actually last night, my daughter called me at 7:30 PM. She was in the Florida international University parking garage on 5th floor. She said her car would not start. It would not turn over. She had headlights. She had radio. Her doors chimed. But, the car would not turn over.
My first thought was, okay it's the battery. Then I remembered her battery was not much more than a year old and was the best Sears diehard I could buy. Just to be on the safe side I took the jumper cables.
I got to where she was and put the jumper cables on..... And nothing.
So, I remember from reading countless crossfire articles about the RCM, relay control modular and guess what? I just happen to have one that was brand-new sitting in the trunk of my SRT six. I open the black box took off all of the clips, put in the new RCM and went over to start the car. Lo and behold, the car started. But, it shut off immediately. I tried again. It started, but shut off immediately. The third time, it would not turn over. Hmmmmmmm!!!!!! I decided to take off the unit battery cable and that the computer reset itself. I pushed in all of the electrical connections to make sure they were seated correctly. I put the RCM back into the black box and close it. I went back to start the car. Unbelievable, it started strongly and purred like a kitten on steroids.
I had three kids from FIU asking me if I were a mechanic and how did I know that was the problem. I simply told them the addiction to the crossfire forum for over five years and reading about all of the issues and how to fix them. I also added, that I was just lucky that I happen to have had RCM in the trunk of my car to put in my daughter's SRT six.
