Default First engine code...

Well, car turned 125,000 today...got my first code! Coming home from picking up dinner, accelerate to get on the freeway, a pronounced miss starts. Check Engine light comes on. Code is P0305, cylinder 5 misfire. Might go with the issue I mentioned in another thread, where I talked about an odd engine behavior (https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...-behavior.html). What's the most likely cause? i haven't changed the fuel filter since we've owned the car (February of last year) and I don't know if that was changed when the dealership got it. I might go there first...

Well, it's baaaaaack! Got the P0305 code on the way home this evening. Guess I am pulling the spark plugs on that cylinder tomorrow. Any reason I should NOT?

I'd swap the coil pack around first.

Just used google and found this from NGK. Whatever matches your situation the most could help.

NGK Spark Plugs USA

rockauto.com sells spark plugs really cheap.

Well, had a fun afternoon diagnosing the problem...I get the plugs in after I clean them up. Take test drive. Cylinder 5 misfire. Get home, change coil pack; notice that some wires are NOT connected firmly to the plugs. Correct that. Take test drive. Cylinder 5 misfire. On the way home, stop at O'Reilly's, and pick up two OEM-spec plugs for the one cylinder. Odd, the car starts and runs fine, but the 'Check Engine' light is still on. Get home, change plugs. Take test drive. Car runs better, but now there is a misfire in the #4 cylinder! Looks like the Autolite plugs are not the best for this application. I am buying another pair of the NGKs tomorrow, and putting them in the #4 cylinder. Maybe that will solve the problem, and if it does, I will just complete out a set of plugs...

Remember that the Check Engine Light does NOT go out right away, be very careful using it as a diagnostic tool!

Ok, your post read like you expected it to just go out.

I say, "Plugs and coil packs for everyone!" ---- I could work at a dealer, just throw parts at it till it is fixed!

LOL at throwing parts...well, I've changed all the coils and the spark plug wires in advance of today's troubleshooting...the only thing I can think of now _is_ the spark plugs...I could be wrong...
