Default Side Gapping Spark Plugs

I found an article when I was trying to find out how does the different GAP effects the performance, and wanted to ask if this 'side gapping spark plugs' is a myth or not.

I got the pictures from that web site to make it easier to understand what it is...

Cutting off the electrode as shown will cause ALL discharges to occur in one spot, shortening lifetime. Seriously.

Seriously: a hacksaw?

It doesn't matter. .045" or 1.1 mm.
