Hi guys, is anyone able to give a guess on this issue. This is leaking a scary amount of oil, light brown in colour, on a 2005 roadster

Can you tell from the engine dip stick if engine oil level is going down?
It looks like a transmission leak, but with the color you describe it could be the rear engine seal, or the small plate that the rear seal is embedded. If you determine it is oil vice transmission fluid leak then plan on resealing the plate and the rear crankshaft seal itself. I think you can purchase the seal and the plate as a unit with the new seal already seated in the plate. That makes the job easier. If you take it to a shop expect to pay about $1000 to replace that rear seal. If it is only a leak at the transmission vice the seal it is much less expensive and could be a DIY project for even less $.

P.S. There are rectangular rubber inspection pieces on the bell housing. If the crankshaft seal is leaking those inspection pieces are probably dripping oil. Open one of them up and swipe your finger inside. Is there engine oil there? ( from your pictures it would be a lot). Hopefully not, as no oil in the bell housing means it is indeed the transmission leak as James noted above.

 

My money is on rear main seal. I spoke with Rob (needswings) he said on these cars they do go and start to leak. Mine has started to leak but it is very minor, not like the down pour on this car. I took of one of the two blk covers on the bell housing and ran my finger through and had a light oil film on it. So mine is the rear main.
