Default Relay Control Module

Greetings,

Have a periodic issue with starting my 2005 Coupe and saw a couple Utube videos on the subject indicating that it is due to a faulty part - A1705450005 (according to Chrysler dealer). Chrysler parts dept said it is a Mercedes part and to order from them; Mercedes parts says it is not their part and must be ordered through Chrysler and that they do not service Crossfires or install parts. When the problem occurs the key will turn but that is it. Cooling fan comes on and the dashboard is black with all the warning lights on. Anyone out there had such an issue and is getting an aftermarket part the solution?

If it is the relay control module it for the most part can be fixed. A problem with these is the solder joints become loose and just need desoldered and re soldered. Also from time to time one of the relays will go bad and that also can be fixed. If you can't or are unable to do it yourself a gentleman on this forum (tighed1) with do it for a nominal charge if you mail it to him. He fixed mine about 8 years age and it still works fine. Where in Indiana are you from might I ask? Aside from that you can order a new one online and put it in yourself it is very easy.

Read up on these 2 threads they explain a lot. Good Luck to you. Oh and welcome to the forum, remember these cars are essentially '03 '04 SLK 320's R170 chassie. Most if not all chassis ,engine, trans parts are interchangeable. Even a lot of the interior will fit.

The part is the BCM, listed wrongly in this eBay ad as a RCM. CLICK
Your problem sounds like the RCM problem. CLICK

Au Contraire Dave, kinda thought there were not enough connections for a BCM, so I looked up A1705450005.
That is the ever elusive PULSE MODULE !

OK, now I am confused. Dave, your saying this part in the auction is the BCM? On multiple ebay auctions it (this part number) comes up as the RCM BUT that thing in no way matches my RCM in my 08. I thought the RCM was the same on all 5 years of our XF's (and the 01-04 SLK320 as a minimum). Can those auctions all be that wrong? I know some pull pictures/descriptions from others auctions but this many?

If it is the BCM, why so few terminals? Is this BCM that complicated inasmuch as it is doing so much work on its data buss?

.

If this is what's happening, it's the RCM. $50 gets it fixed better than new!
Email me at tighed1@hotmail.com for details

You are correct, I just Googled it and chose that, never seen either before fortunately.
One site even identified it as the Multi Media Control module.

I also made a mistake once when I thought I had made a mistake but actually had not.

It would be most likely the BEST $27.00 you spent on your XF! The car is at least 12 years old already and the cost is quite outstanding in value!

To all of you that have NOT had your RCM overhauled by DJ, YOU ARE DRIVING ON BORROWED TIME with all our cars now over 10 years old.

You can of course fix it yourself for the price of a little solder. Use resin cored solder, not acid cored solder as you do not want the acid to turn it all green and eat it away.

I've never made a mistake, now that I think back on it. I have had "errors in judgement" though! They crop up all the time! Hah!

I've got a spare RCM I bought from RockAuto.com. Part is from Standard Automotive Products, P/N RY1562. Listed on RockAuto.com as a computer control relay.

Having a "disagreement" with Dave is sorta fun. I just don't take it personal, but I'll stand my ground the same as him on an issue I'm confident about. I acknowledge that he has a tremendous amount of knowledge about the Crossfire & has provided valuable tips on what my problem is and how to solve it. What more could you ask for!
