Default Redline Racing Oil

I have replaced the Mobile 1 synthetic oil with Redline Racing 40 oil. Just a FYI for you guys. I have always used Redline in my track cars.

I was told by the dealer that changing the motor oil to another brand will throw the computer off as it reads the oil in order to accurately tell you when it is time to change your oil.... Now I don't believe a whole lot my dealer tells me so I kind of find it hard to believe.... Any truth in this?

No there is really no truth in what the dealer told you. If there was then why is there more than one approved oil?

An oil analysis of the Redline oil would be great. I have tested the Mobile 1 and after 6 months and ~3500 miles it was holding up fantastically. I have seen some engines that do not like Redline and would love to see how it does in our engines.

With all due respect, do you need a computer to tell you when to change your oil? I you drive hard change it sooner. 3000 miles is my rule of thumb for synthetic.

One thing to remember is that you have ~twice the oil in your car that a typical car has. I am a huge proponent of oil being the life blood of the engine & that it is cheap insurance. That being said 3k miles is on our cars is a bit over kill. Your oil has plenty of life left in it.

My comments above may not apply to a standard Crossfire as I am not sure if they have the same oil capacity as the SRT6.

Not when you're running the car nearly every other weekend at the track. 3K miles is pushing it... Thanks for your input...

PS: One of the many reasons we have such a large oil capacity is because that damned MB SLK320 engine runs hotter than a pistol...

Yes, if you track your car all the time that changes the story.

A couple of years ago I did a good bit of research on oil. A great site is http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/.
