Clutch and Shifter
Would anyone agree with me that the Crossfire's clutch/shifter combination is world-class lousy? There is no tactile feeling to the clutch pedal and the shifter is as vague as a hot knife in a pot of soft margarine. I've driven my '07 50k miles since I got it new. I've driven nothing but manual transmissions for over 60 years, road raced professionally for 20 and the Crossfire still makes me look like a 14-year old in a stolen car. Any suggestions?

I have not driven many standard transmissions. My 79 Chevy Monza, a 72 Chevy tow truck. Those were years ago, but while looking for my convertible I drove a 2013 BMW Z4, a 2017 Mustang GT (only because wife didn't like crossfire), and the crossfire. Out of all of those I liked the crossfire shifting the best. Maybe it was just suited to my driving style. Did not matter in the end I bought an SRT6.
I am not fond of the quality of the feel and operation of the 6 speed manual in the Crossfire. As said, 1st to 2nd just doesn't seem easy flowing. Most of the time unless on a big hill, I start off in 2nd. The most fun gear is 3rd were it really has some good pull. But it is still fun all around.
My GMC Canyon has a better feel for manual shifting than the Mercedes driveline.

I too have gotten fond of just skipping 1rst gear unless starting uphill
2nd is very comfortable for a smooth start on level ground with no need to ride the clutch
Maybe I got lucky. My Crossfire shifter has the same firm and positive throw as my previous two-seaters, including my venerable '69 Vette 4 speed (RIP).
Always a pleasure to drive
