Default New shifter and boot

So after I tried to get my shifter off to see how hard it was and subsequently breaking a tab on the shift **** which meant the **** came off sometimes (you have to lift up and to the bottom left for those without a manual) when I went into reverse I finally got a new shift ****.

I got a different one than I originally wanted but the one I got was more expensive and the company gave it to me for the price of the originally ordered ****. So, I finally have a sturdy shifter that I don't need to worry about when trying to get into reverse. I got the boot to match so it just screwed right in.

Looks different, does it have LED's in the top?

A shift boot is the leather covering the linkage underneath the panel.

Yeah, I'm having the pull-off shift & boot problem. It's maddening, and I haven't had a second to bring it in for service.

Nothing personal, but I'm not nuts about that ****. I'm actually digging the stock ****. I didn't think I'd like it cuz there's no leather, but it has a good feel and weight. Plus it mimics the shape of the hood & roof & dash.

Mediacritic,

The easy and permanent fix for the shifter lever popping off in reverse is to completely remove the retainer nut (the round nut which locks on the ****) and replace it with a small hose clamp. It is easy to remove, hides under the boot just like the retainer nut and locks the **** on the shift lever for good.

I discovered this about a year ago and it has completely solved the popping off issue permanently. It should have been designed this way but I guess it was too simple!
Go figure!

Trust me I pulled as hard as I could and I gave up. The next days as I'm going into reverse the damn thing just popped off. So I'm not really sure what the trick is.

The stock **** is nice but after I broke one of the clips that holds the **** in the retainer clip I needed a new one.

GatorLCA,

All you have to do is: pull up the leather boot cover and turn the retainer nut clockwise and down and the shift **** will pull right off. If you have found that the round retainer nut has come off then you are right where you want to be, as a small hose clamp replaces that nut and it will not come off again.

Thanks for the tip, guys! I didn't feel like dealing with the service department and all the wasted time.

I wanted to get a new one anyway so how it came off didn't really matter. It did take 2 weeks for me to get the new **** and boot cause of miscommunication b/w me and the vendor but it was only a minor annoyance until this one came. I actually prefer the thinner **** over the OEM one.

Looks nice. Which Pioneer head unit is in the photo along with it?

DEH-P4800MP...I wish it had more features but for now it works well since it matches all the LEDs on the inside.

What features is your new radio missing? I'm thinking of getting a DEH-P4800MP very soon. Is this a mistake? How did you wire your radio...Are you using the stock pre-amp? Did you use any rca plug from the radio itself? Thanks for your help. Jason
