Default Automatic wont go in manual mode

My 04 Crossfire wont go in manual mode.It shifts fine in automatic. I've heard about the electrical conduit plate issues. Should i replace it before it goes into limp mode.

Have you spilled anything on the console around the shifter recently ?
The manual mode works by a simple set of copper fingers running against a circuit board,
anything that gets in there is bad news.
( and yes, could also be conductor plate )

Only had my NA Coupe for a few weeks and notice tonight when I was doing manual shifts that it was "clunky" and slow on downshifts, noticed today that my trans cap is black meaning that it has not been touched ever .. I will be doing a service soon myself.
