YES , i searched but i was reading on the MB site that this was the weakness of these motors? Is that the M112? Just asking, I am still loving the car. Its like any relationship, something will come up to kill the deal and make the honeymoon be over, is this the cars weakness? I am at 130k as of today.

I have never heard of that problem on this site and I have been around a while now.

Been on the forum here for 10 years, never heard of any problem with the balance shaft.
Only consistent engine problems I'm aware of is leaky vent covers. CPS sensor and the occasional oil level sensor.
( this is discounting normal wear items, water pump, alternator, V belt idlers etc. )

Then we are still in the honeymoon phase in these parts neighbor!! Woo Hoo ! Maybe its best I dont do late night drinking and reading . . I always buy cars ( way to many) only to realize that they have one MAJOR issue that can break the bank so I start worrying and then two days later I am posting it for sale and starting over.

Early M272 engines had issues with the balance shaft gears, which would wear out prematurely and cause the timing chain to fall off or fail.

While the M272 is based on the M112 design, the M112's don't suffer from this problem. The M112's and M113's were actually overbuilt, and it's pretty common to see them hit 400k plus miles with nothing more than routine oil changes.

That is good to hear, I have been looking for a bulletproof car and I think I found it. I watched a video of a guy deleting air pump and removing the ERG and he had mentioned it. Thanks so much for the response. Now the only real problem is the spoiler going up at 40 and does not go down. Thanks
