Got new rims for my car, 20’s was doing it in the driveway, got passenger side done than it started to get dark, so I went to move it to the garage, it instantly started make a loud sound in the rearend, I checked nothing was rubbing or hitting. Took the wheels off put it in stands and it still makes the sound, and the axle shafts will stop every so often while on the gas without me getting in the brake. Emptied the diff fluid and I feel like it was low, someone in the forum said it takes 1.6 litters, not that much in there. I spin the driveshaft by hand and I don’t hear anything in the diff, PLEASE HELP

 

What year? Base, Limited, SRT6 ? Manual or automatic ???? need more information

Maybe you used wrong length wheel studs and damaged the parking brake hardware.

 

I used the same ones that were on it before, but I didn’t know that could happen either, how can I find out if I damaged it?

 

Remove the brake rotor. The brake rotor also has a built in drum for the parking brake shoes. Your new rims may require shorter wheel bolts. Too long of a bolt will interfere with the parking brake.

So what did you find? It's always good to let us know results so we all can use the information in the future ... was it the wheel bolts?

 

sorry guys for the late response long day at work, but it wasn’t the bolts, I gotta replace the differential. The different size rim on each side destroyed the gears. I didn’t think it would do it so fast but it did. It instantly blew it.

 

Well, if you force the propshaft to turn and not allow the wheels to turn, the weakest link in the chain from piston pins to wheels will fail.
How we know what is the weakest link in THAT chain...................
