Cool Cadwell Park Track Day 27/01/08

Wow - Thanks Woody,
Had a fantastic day at Cadwell riding shotgun in Woodys Crossfire. Woody gunned the Crossfire around the circuit turning in very respectfull lap times, despite having to dodge lots of novices and slower cars out on the track. The dry weather allowed some fast cornering and I was amazed how well the car performed. The Crossfire is such an under rated car, but it was clear to anyone at Cadwell today that it is a force to be reckoned with - especialy in Woody's very capable hands. The car was amazingly nimble and quick through the difficult parts of this complicated cicuit. If ever you get an offer from Woody to be his co-pilot at a track day, take it for an experience you will not forget, but form an orderly queue - cos I'll be at the front ! Nice One Woody !

Thanks for the kind words Steve, it was an absolute pleasure to have you come along. You were probably the ultimate passenger to have that day (or any other for that matter); a Crossfire owner that has actually raced at Cadwell for real You are more than welcome to come to any other events.

All in all it was a fantastic day despite the session being red flaggged for a couple of big shunts, and the trouble with my nuts...wheel nuts that is!

I'm still downloading all the video and the pics and will get them posted up ASAP. I also managed to find this pic of us coming up the The Mountain', I've emailed them to see if they have more.

Cant' wait for the next one!

Here are some pics from the day. We were too busy out on the track to take many pics! It was a blast from the past for me because an old friend in the form or a Lada Samara race car turned up on a trailer. I know this car from years ago. Sadly the original owner, a local Lada dealer who I knew died some years ago and thought it had been scrapped. The car has quite a history and was very successfully campaigned in the Falkien and Toyo tyres series; it held various lap records at Mallory and Donington.

Steve checks out the Lada's engine bay. We both spent a bit of time under there helping the new owner to sort a starter motor problem!

Hi Ken & everyone,
Yes a great day, as you can see from Woody's super pic's - track days are allways interesting because of the wide variety of cars that turn up. The Lada is fully race prepared and the engine sounded very fit. Woody was lucky enough to get a few laps in the crew seat of the Lada just before the circuit closed, I reckon it made his day, judging by the grin on his face when he climed out! Thanks for the nice comment about my +fire, she's finally starting to look the part now, in the pics I'd only put on a quick coat of Maguires Step 2, and since then I've repeated the Step 2 and put on a liberal coat of Step 3 Chrystal Carnuba Wax. After spending the best part of a day on it Im very pleased with the results, particularly since I also got the stone chips on the bonnet sorted as well.
Cheers for now
Steve

Thumbs up Re: Cadwell Park Track Day 27/01/08

Ken, yes I got the number plate surrounds locally, they are only cheap plastic ones. You can get expensive chromed steel ones but they are not flexible and will not bend as req' for the front curved plate. The rear one is from Halfords £9.95, you will see this one is only suitable for the rear flat surface due to its design. The front one is diferent, its design allows it to sit over the existing grey plastic mouting, held in place on the curved surface with 8 small self tapper screws. Ken I have a spare front one, email me your addy and I'll send it to you. Your numberplates are held in place using plenty of double sided adhesive tape, especially at the front where it needs to be held on the curve. If you fancy new plates, see my earlier post "Number Plates". Not sure if you saw the logo I chose for my plates. Cheers for now! Steve

Hi Steve Re the surrond very kind of you, thanks. I used the Xfire today for the first time since I fitted the K&N filters and I truely noticed a real difference, seemed a bit swifter on take off and a crisper exhaust when using a heavy foot from low speeds. I had my doubts about the K&N hype, but I'm really pleased I fitted them. Much cheaper from the USA www.TVTdesign.com even with postage, check their site and if interested, I dealt re a sprint booster with Anthony a nice guy.

Have you confirmed your Easter meet B&B yet? Jane and I are in a small pub i the main street in Dorchester onThames. both looking forward to meeting up again. When we meet face to face mext time, do tell me about your earlier racing days!

Take care
Ken. V6 A XF

Hi guys,

Im not a Crossfire owner however i was at cadwell on the 27th.

One of the slower, novice (first time) drivers you kindly mention above

Anyway having seen your car kitted out with the camera at cadwell i assumed the video would make it onto the internet and enjoyed watching it.

Just thought i would share some other pictures of the day with you:

Hi Atkin,
Thanks for sharing your pics from Cadwell they are brill and realy give a flavour of what the track days are all about. Which car were you in?? we will look out for you. Through this site you'll find links to plenty of video, but all Crossfire of course! Woody is the track video maestro' here, driving his Crossfire. Hope you had a great day at Cadwell - keep in touch and hopefully we'll have a natter at some circuit somewhere !

I was in the metro GTI.

Im not sure cadwell was the best choice for my first track, it was a lot harder than I imagined.

However i live 5 minutes from the circuit so it made sense.

I had professional instruction on the day which helped a lot for the afternoon session.

We had a good turn out rover wise on the day, a lot of people came from forum metropower.co.uk.

I dont know if you saw the other metro, darker red than mine (in the pic i posted) but its a supercharged VVC engine which produced 220bhp on the rolling road. At 800kilos makes for a quick car!

We have booked an open pit lane day at Snetterton, which seems an easy track to drive and will let me really feel what the car is like, as cadwell was the first time I had driven the car.

Would be good to see the crossfire (and camera!) at the track.

Matt

Welcome Matt! Glad you had a good time at your first outing at Cadwell, it was a fantastic day. The problem is you will now be on the slippery slope of track addiction Great pictures too! Which Snetterton day are you doing? I've never driven there and it probably won't need much to persauded me to come along. You never know we may get some more people from here venturing out on the track

Simon.
