It nearly all went horribly wrong
Hi everyone
I am a new member who is picking up a brand new black xf roadster on Monday. However, my RenaultSport clio 172 (px for the xf) nearly got trashed today in a really big bad way. I’m still shaking…. I could well have missed out on the xf for quite a while and would now be sorting insurance claims and stuff…
While heading for the ferry on the pile of ***** (Isle of Wight UK). Some muppet just stopped in front of me (with no indication) in order to turn right (across the traffic in UK). I seriously got to test the ABS in my clio for the first time (in three years), the clio worked well even though the road was flooded (weather in south UK at moment is atrocious). Just as I was breathing a really big sigh of relief I looked in my rear view mirror and to my horror saw a big VOLVO estate heading for the back of my car at what seemed terminal speed.
The VOLVO driver decided to take the right turn rather than plow my ****. He did this across the traffic just clipping the edge of my body work. How he got away with it I will never know…. he must have missed the oncoming traffic by about an inch or so.
Fingers crossed, the DC dealer will not even notice the new scratches on my previously concourse condition clio sport. I know he is selling it on. It seems a real shame that a car that has been kept immaculate for more than three years will go to a new owner in a less than perfect condition.

Horrible story but luckily everything went right. Except your overwrought nerves ...
Congrats to your Crossfire

chfx - you guessed it .. it was an unusually lovely sunny spring day when I bought the roadster (it is so preeeety). It has rained every day since.
The one car I regret selling was my 172, the pickup to 60 seemed quicker than the x-fire, although from 60+ the x-fire wins hands down, and the 172 was definitely more chuckable on country roads. Looking at the 172 (mk1) now it appears dated but for £1 for fun it beats everything else at the price.
Horses for courses, I used to use 2 roads frequently, Tiverton to Barnstaple (A361) which the x-fire outshines the 172, but on the Goole to Scarborough (A614) I'd use the 172 everytime.
Both cars do they're own thing the x-fire makes ease of long sweeping roads where the 172 is at home on short sprint/tight cornering roads.
Enjoy your new drive.

That was lucky.
Yeah the 172 is a mad car and as you say on a twisty road it is prob quicker than the Crossfire.
However the Crossfire is diff class to the Clio.
My second car is a Clio although it is onlt the 1.4.
The thing that annoys me most is the terrible seating position on the clio and I think the 172 is the same.
Anyway hope you enjoy the Crossfire as much as I am.
Had mines for a couple of months now.
Norrie.

I paid £11k (import) and for the price and the standard kit of 6 disc cd, stereo controls on steering wheel, aircon, leather, boot cover! it could put an awful lot of cars to shame.
Some people don't like its driving position but in the year I had the car I covered 20k and only found the seat belt irritating across the shoulder, also finding the same with the x-fire but don't really want to put a set of sparco covers on the belts.
I bought the x-fire because it looks so different from everything else on the road (I'm still getting asked what it is after 18 months), build quality is excellent - I've only two complaints - No1 is the only way of getting info about this car is to exchange through this forum as the dealers in the UK know sh*t - and No2 is it's a little underpowered compared to some competition but I'm sure with a few more mods it'll tick the boxes I am after at the moment.

one thing to check when picking up your car is the centre hub caps as on some UK cars there is corrosion of the center badges. I've just had mine replaced under warranty but 2 new cars on the forecourt also had the same problem.
