Default McCulloch Xenon HID Conversion Kit

Does anyone have a link to a non-ebay site that sells the McCulloch HID kits?

i only see them on ebay... because aftermarket hids are technically outlawed/illegal for retail sale.

only for available for "so called" off road or show use only.

"It is our regret to inform you that as of August 15th, 2003, the sale and importation of aftermarket HID retrofit systems will most likely be prohibited by law. The NHSTA/DOT has been trying to introduce new laws to regulate the sale of HID retrofit kits. Their guideline on determining the legality of HID kits is filament locations. But because HID technology does not utilize a filament, they fail. No matter how high quality the kit is, they deem them as unfit for retrofit.

This ruling will effect ALL HID kits. After 8/15/2003, HID kits as you know it will never be sold again unless new laws are made. I'm sure there are all types of legal issues here, for one, this has all been done without anyone knowing. After 8/15/03, there will be a possible $5,000 fine PER DAY for vendors selling HID kits".

Ah, good point andrew, didn't even think about that.

In that case, do you know of an ebay seller that has these available for the Crossfire at an ebay store, or is it pretty much only a chance encounter that you find one at auction?

Also, I'm an idiot when it comes to electrical matters, so how do I know what kit will work on the Crossfire? Is there a kit or part number.

the "plug and play" kit is easy to install. total install time... an hour or two. no cutting... no splicing... just plugs into the factory harness.
the kit comes with xenon bulbs, ballast, relay etc...

you will need to order the "H7" kit. i would recommend the 6,000k.

ebay link (under $300)...

installed in my car...here are the pics of where i mounted the hid hardware (you must have a flat surface). the relays are mounted using existing posts...i added a nut to secure relay. extra wire ties keep things nice and tightie (lots of extra wire).

Andrew...you continue to shame me with your spotless vehicle...even the hidden parts of your car are clean enough to eat off of them...but then that would mess them up. Okay...I am going to practice much better auto hygiene...and I am almost sold on HIDs. Sadly, I do very little night driving in Two Harleys. But I suppose I'd do more if I had the visibility HIDs would add.

I have the McCulloch HID kits for my head lights and my fog lights. I installed the ballasts for the headlights and fogs behind the bumper below the engine compartment so they do not get so hot in the engine bay. This way, when you open the hood, you don't see the aftermarket parts. There is plenty of room behind the fog lights to mount everything.

So far no problems. I had the McCulloch on the my Silvia front end that had projectors, and I never had any problems with them. Which is why I bought the McCullochs again.

(5) Are these HID light systems street legal?

NO XENON HID conversion kit available from any source is DOT approved if installed outside of the factory. Moreover, in the U.S, this is not street legal for use on public roads. As a result, we officially endorse the kit for exhibition and off-road use and will only sell the kit to be used for these purposes. We are not responsible for buyers who violate the terms of sale while in which they will assume all responsibilities for any unauthorized or unintended use other than exhibition or off-road use.
I love item #5 from their FAQ...

A. Why is this illegal.
B. Does anyone have a pic of before and after.
C. Sorry for being a noob but why would I want this and what is HID.
D. Can a noob like me install this and make my car look like 2006 BMW with those cool lights.
E. What does this cost.
F. Can this damage the crossfire or cause a fire because of heat.

I think that's everything.

The heat of the HID system is even less than Xenon or Halogen bulbs, so there is not much risk of heat damage. Watts used is also less while producing 2-3 times the light.

The main reason they are illegal is the fact that the aiming systems are often not set right and people get blinded by 'low' beams... creating an unsafe road condition.

They are around $300 a set if I remember the web site mentioned above.

The website above has comparison pictures... although they look photoshopped.

I bought mine through Xenonpros, but on ebay, where they are cheaper than their web site. They shipped them to the wrong address the first time around, so it took me a while to get them. When I got them, everything was fine. They work great. I'm still trying to find time to take some goos pictures and get them up.

Which setup did you get? Single beam or dual beam? Their item list seemed a little confusing in terms of the different harnesses available.

I got the 5,000K H7 single beam for the head lights, and the 3,000K 9006 single beam for the fog lights.

I've got the 6,000K Xenon HID's in my low beams only and love them. For me it was simply an issue of being able to see at night. Regardless of legal issues with conversion kits, once you've experienced driving with the HID's you just can't go back to any other (filament) lamp. The Crossfire uses a reflector in the headlight so just be sure the lights are aimed properly and there should be no problem.

By the way, the Sylvania Silverstar lamps are a complete joke. Don't waste you $$ on them.
