Default License Plates

The California coppers say I'm required to have a front license plate. Fortunately I have one in my front seat but unfortunately I have to mount it to the front bumper to be legal.

Does anyone have an idea how I can do this without drilling holes. Some special mount or anything.

Not true... It can be placed anywhere that is visible from the front of the vehicle that is no higher than 64" from the ground. This means you can place it on the front dashboard looking through the windshield.

There is a CA DMV regulation that you can download that specifically states the placement of the front plate...

But I always used to pull this out of my glove box when I got pulled over...

Display of License Plates

5200. (a) When two license plates are issued by the department for use upon a vehicle, they shall be attached to the vehicle for which they were issued, one in the front and the other in the rear.

(b) When only one license plate is issued for use upon a vehicle, it shall be attached to the rear thereof, unless the license plate is issued for use upon a truck tractor, in which case the license plate shall be displayed in accordance with Section 4850.5.
Amended Sec. 27, Ch. 594, Stats. 2003. Effective January 1, 2004.

I would tell them that only one license plate was issued at the time of purchase and that I cannot be responsible for something that is out of my control...

They can never prove that you received two plates...
