Default HIDs

I know there are a lot of HID threads already, but I'm going to make another one. I'm on a forum in Atlanta -- www.importatlanta.com/forums -- there's a guy on there who sells HID kits that come with a 1 year warranty for a pretty good price. Granted they aren't McCulloch or anything huge name brand like that, but he seems legit.

He has any kit you want: 4,300, 6,000, 8,000, 10,000, 12,000K.
Price: $150 shipped.
or if you are around Atlanta, he can install them for you for $175 total price.

I'm about to order either 8 or 10K, so I guess I can let you know what the quality is like.

If anyone is interested in this, shoot me a PM and I'll get his email for you or something. Like I said, its not big name brand, but for half price of the name brand, its worth a try.

I would suggest not doing 8K or 10K since it'll output too blue of a color. I have a 6K kit and it shows up pretty white on the road yet the bulb color is a nice blue. I honestly wouldn't go more than 6K cause if it's too blue then it'll look like cheap knock-off HIDs.

However, it's not my $$ so to each their own.

Exclamation Re: HIDs

Just be careful... In the past some of the cheaper kits have been known to trigger the "bulb out" indicator on the dashboard. You might want to ask the seller to confirm whether or not his kit is compatible with the MB bulb monitoring circuitry otherwise you're going to be driving around with that bright yellow indicator every time you turn on your headlights.

Most people (me included) have gone with the McCulloch kit because it has been proven to work and is high quality.

8k and 10k are really really blue.
I have the 6,000k and they have a blue tint.

Another nice set is from: gethids.com. They have Siemens hid kits for $199 shipped. I just installed some 6,000k's in my '04 coupe and they are great, high quality lights and do not set off the bulb light on the dash. I highly recommend this kit for the money.

You'll have to excuse my ignorance here since I know nothing about HID lamps, but I would have thought the higher the output [12k compared to 6k], the whiter and more intense the light would be, or am I mistaken?

3,500K - Yellowish
4,300K - White with a slight yellow tint
6,000K - White with a blue tint
8,000K - Very blue
12,000K - Light purple

Hope that helps.

You would be mistaken. As the color temp goes up, the light output goes down. This is because manufacturers have to add filtering material to the lamp capsule to block out the yellowish components of the lamp's output in order to get the desired color temperature.

You will have max benefit from HIDs if they are in the 4,700 - 5,000 deg. K range.

I ordered this set (Xenon Eyes) when I read the post, figuring what the heck. Got it last Friday, and after unpacking & looking at the unit, I went back to E-bay and ordered the McCulloch 6,000k kit. I will return the other set to Xenon Eyes.

Ok I have to add my 2 cents... On monday I'm going to the dealer for some warranty work and took my HID's out and put the stock back in. Tonight I was driving to work and felt like I couldn't see the damn road. It was like I had my lights off. I highly recommend getting a pair. I run 10k and they are BLUE BLUE BLUE. I'm switching to 6k soon. But oh what a difference in lighting the road up.

How much for just two 6,000K bulbs...mine don't work well anymore? My kit was for 6,500K bulbs, will it work with 6,000K bulbs?

I have to chime in on this and recommend the 6,000K Xenon HID kit. I would suggest you stick with McCulloch because they're tried and true (and yes, a very nice blue). You get what you pay for. Well worth the $$$!!!
You will be amazed!

I went with the HID's from China...So far so good.
No Lamp out light and they work great. Only paid $105 bucks shipped.
Had them for about 3 months now with no probs,
If they do go out Im going to get the Phillips HID Kit.

how much brighter are the hid's? i have to ask if your stock setup is the same bulb as my '06 model? my are pretty stinking bright in stock form and i'm wondering how much brighter i'd be getting with the upgrade? as is, i get flashed if i'm going up hill and they think i'm running my brights. my only real complaint is the beam seems narrow.

Your getting flashed because your lights are aimed a little too high, just kick em down a bit... like maybe a millimeter.
As far as the brightness... 4x brighter on the road.
It unbelievable, you must upgrade, you will be shocked and never go back.

I too was surprised at how much brighter the hid kit is.
I have the McCullough 6,000K for about a year.
I expected a little brighter and I got much more than I expected.

Cool Re: HIDs

They also throw out a wider beam, and are very noticeable during the daytime.

I've been wanting to install a McCulloch 6,000K setup for a while. Has anyone had any problems with this setup at all? I'm always a little hesitant when changing electrical, but this setup seems fairly reliable...any help is appreciated...

No problems with mine. The only suggestion I would make is make sure the bulbs are seated properly. After I installed them, went for a drive and the passenger side light was shining to the right & up in the trees. Went back home and reseated the bulb and all is good. I never have to use my high beams with these installed. The only thing I may have done differently is to go with the 5,000k, the 6,000k is just a tad to blue for me, but I will wait until one of mine burns out before I replace it.
