Magic Touch
What do you guys think of shaving off the handles on the Crossfire and adding the device called Magic Touch? http://www.lafranceautoworks.com
I was thinking using the fixed Window sensor at the small triangle window on each side.

Do they have fillers for the door handles or would they need to be covered at a body shop? What are your plans?
What happens if the battery goes dead? How would you get in the car?

I checked out the website and I can see the one where they replaced the door handle pretty clearly. I would hope that they used their best angle to do this for their ad copy... which leads me to believe that in person, the handle replacement options would stand out pretty sharply and just look cheesy.
However, if you have a good body shop remove the handles and fill appropriately and do what you suggested with the windows... that might be cool looking. Maybe one of the Photoshop wizards who are members could work up what this would look like on our car?
Good luck and definitely post some pics if you decide to do it!

I would have to see it on a XF to see how the covering of the door handle goes (unless you shave it completely). I think the best place to place the sensor though would have to be the top view window spot...seems like it would be less likely to be touched there if one left car unlocked after closing (run into store situation).
So I've been talking with sales over at LaFrance Autoworks and they say if we can get at least 10 people in for a group buy, they will produce a handle cover for our car and provide a group buy discount.
Sales has read this thread and has the following response to the questions above:
So you guys interested or what? I still am.
Sales has read this thread and has the following response to the questions above:
1) Shaving the handles and doing bodywork over where the handle was is the cleanest and best looking option. Then put the sensor on the quarter window, in the mirror housing, or on the front windshield. Any of them would work. But its a cost issue. The cost would be Magic Touch plus bodywork and paint. The less expensive solution would be the door handle replacement. Yes it would have a line around where the handle was that is smaller than the lines around gas cap lids and different body panels, but it would fill the entire indention and make the car look a lot better than the factory handle. I wouldn't call it cheesy.
2) As far as the battery issue is concerned. We well a back up battery for $49 that charges from the car, but is isolated if the car battery dies. The Magic Touch doors will still work. Or/and you can do what the other person suggests and have a jumper post/cable accessible from outside the hood, maybe under the front fender or wheel well. That is what we do for our show cars.
3) Regarding needing the key to start the car. Adding Magic Touch is primarily to give the exterior a much cleaner look. If you want to go completely keyless, we can offer an RFID key fob that will unlock your car when you approach it, and a optional push button start that is enabled by the RFID.

oh. i would ave no interest in the door inserts either. the wayi see it: if you are going to have such a nice system, best to spend the dollars and get the body work done. create that truly clean look.
Just a thought while reading this thread. I guess if you could spend the amount of money it would take to do this mod right, you sure aren't affected yet by the $4.50 per gallon gas.
Just a thought. Not a criticism.

seems like a strange thing to say, a bit of a downer really. here we are dreaming of the possibilities and you got to suck us back to reality!
i was enjoying candy land. though it is hard to eat right.
you could say this about any one of mods for this car couldnt you? some are thinking of spending 1600 on headers. others have already spent 5-7 k on engine mods that increase fuel consumption.
modding cars transcends reason.
personally, the corssfire is my weekend car. my hobby. the rest of the time i have a company car provided to me.
