Yeah, and slap you with a ticket that means $$$ for the state.

YOU Won't believe this!!! First off, in Texas they can't pull you over for just a missing front plate, they have to have another reason. Well today I gave them a reason. I wasn't paying attention and got caught doing 45 in a 20 mph school zone (no children present but a timed school zone). The cop almost forgot why he pulled me over when he saw I had no inspection sticker, no registration sticker and no front plate. All Of a sudden I realized I forgot to change the back plate, You see I was at a car show on Saturday night and I let a friend put a spare Texas plate on my car. He said you can't show a car with a paper temporary plate, so I put it on thinking I would change it back before leaving the show. Well I forgot! I thought I was gong to jail for the bogus plate! After about 15 minutes the cop came back and only gave me a warning! I had done so many other things wrong the front plate wasn't even an issue. I hope the state hurries up and sends me the permanent plate.

FP - That cop has already given warning. With the Crossfire such a uniquely identifiable vehicle, you don't have a chance. He knows your location and your car. Keep the checkbook handy...

Yes but the only plate I had on the car was registered to a 2006 Cadillac CTS. That had me more scared than 45 in a school zone. I did get pulled over for 145 in a 65. the cop wrote me for 90 saying he didn't have time to take me to jail.

While I will put a legitimate rear plate on the car when I receive it. I will never put the font plate on. Ten years in Texas and not a single fine yet for no front plate. I have been asked about it though.

I really dislike that front plate, but I keep it on there anyway. I live in MA, here the police decide to pull you over, then look for the excuse (particularly in small towns). And if they don't see one, they'll make it up. I'd rather not justify their tactics because of my plate, which is an easily noticed thing. As a quick example, I was pulled over a few years ago in my station wagon "because" my registration sticker on the plate was not current. I'm sure they saw that 1"X1" sticker clearly while I drove by at 45. It was a BS traffic stop, which I validated for them because of that little sticker so I couldn't say jack. Now consider how easy it is for them to point to that space where the license plate should be as a reason.

I'd say put that plate on, forget the money aspect, it's worth it the first time you can talk your mind for getting pulled over for no reason.

My x-fire was from Florida, so I had to get the bracket and put the front plate on to prevent problems with the cops here in New Jersey.

But now I've had regrets, because in my experience, if you have an expired registration or inspection sticker, a decent cop will give a fine for the missing item and not the traffic violation.

The benefit is that although it costs $$$, you don't get points on your license and then feel the effect on your insurance.

I'm now wondering that the missing plate could potentially "divert" the traffic violation.

Just a thought...

That's good to know. I haven't been pulled over in the last month since I got my metal plates - I really don't want to install the front plate bracket...
