Default Dome light

This is kind of a dumb question, but do those little sea shell looking things in the dome light do anything besides make the light duller? I ordered LED replacements, and I want them to be as bright as possible, so can I just remove them? Also, has anyone wired in resistors for the exterior lights, and if so.. where? I was looking today, and it seems like the only place they can go is behind the panel on the hatch, and I really dont want to take that off.

I ordered my load resistors and I will be posting where and how I attached them.

As to the lenses, they don't make that much difference. As a matter of fact they are supposed to disperse the light more evenly.

Cheers!

It seems that maybe they might help prevent yellowing/crazing with age? Like the dome light in an old '72 Caprice?

I dunno...
