Hello! So have any of you installed a sunroof, or was this an option from the factory?

If you have installed, what sort of price am I looking at? Do you have pictures?

 

There was (1) black coupe I remember that had a custom sunroof. There was no sunroof option from the factory. The pictures were pretty bad and not that easy to see, some people disliked it strongly as they felt it ruined the lines on the car..

I don't have the pictures handy, maybe you can search and find them.

 

I don't think a sunroof would look good at all on these cars......................but cutting it into a targa top(and properly reinforcing the unibody) would be interesting.

 

If I recall it was a Hollandia (not sure on spelling) sunroof. Pretty common aftermarket roof that goes up and out to open. Here is the thread:

As been discussed, I think t-tops would be the way to go...

 

There is a member on here with a gold xfire coupe from Arlington, VA I believe, who has the sunroof installed with lambo doors. The sunroof is a good look.

Why was the car trashed, did it leak? I just came out of a 98 C5 Corvette. Really a perfect car that I really liked but I wanted somthing new. It had the targa top. I love the crossfire but miss the open air. I know buy a Convertable then. Well I bought a coupe and I would at least like to look at the sunroof option to what is possible?

 

you might want to be just a little more specific to enlighten us all.

 

t tops would surely be prohibitively expensive?

 

targa top would OWN a sunroof. im sorry but i had soft tops. i would take a targa top WAY over a conv.

 

T top would be slick.

I don't know for sure if it is a Hollandia, as I don't own the car nor have I seen it; however, it looks like a Hollandia (I have owned Hollandia's in other cars, most recently a Mazda 626). The Hollandia open up and out (as opposed to most factory roofs which open into the roof). It has a switch that was mounted in the headliner on my 626 that looks alot like a power window switch. Mine worked flawlessly and never leaked and I really liked it. It was very smooth on the outside when closed as well. The only negative at all was when opened it only resulted in about 2/3 of the hole being open - due to the open up & out design. It vents and everything too - it was infinitely "openable" depending on when you released the open button. Hope this makes some sense and it at least partially clear. I think Hollandia was a European made product and seemed very high qualilty.

This is just an idea that had hit me a couple months back when I was thinking about adding a sunroof or having my car modified to have T-tops. But I thought this may be a great option to have a unique look, and still be cost/time/structurally effective. I'm sure I'm going to get some laughs at this, and some will probably say it looks stupid, but its just an idea that I decided to photoshop. Its a little rough i know. But it is the closest I could get with the short amount of time I have available to modify pictures right now......

I'm really not into sun roofs myself, but there seems to be a lot of people on the forum who are.
AChinn, I think you've come up with the ideal way of installing them on the Crossfire.
They don't sever the Crossfires spine, because of their compact size, storage would be simple, and they even look pretty cool. Sort of like the aftermarket glass T-Tops that were available on the C3 Vettes. (Greenwood design) So it would give the Crossfire an even more "retro" look than it already has. If they were hinged in the middle, they would also give a Crossfire a Mercedes "Gull Wing" persona.
Plus the cars structural integrity wouldn't be compromised either.
Personally, if I was one of those people who really want a Sun Roof, I think this would be the very best way to go.

funny you should mention the gull wing mercedes, I think there is a lot of design cues on the crossfire taken from the 300 gullwing. the overall side profile of the car resembles it in a way
