Default Paint on roof strips peeling

The clearcoat and the paint is peeling from the roof strips on my Dad's graphite gray SRT6. I have noticed that it is worse before every wash. If I laid a strip of tape on it and pulled it would probably lift the remaining paint right off. The metal underneath appears to be aluminum. It hasn't rusted and looks very bright. Is this going to be typical of our cars as they age? No problems yet on my black SRT.

I'm really just curious if anyone else is seeing this problem. I dont expect any cures or advice for a car built in 04 that's been outside in the weather.

When looking to purchase, about 6 months ago, I found 2 black ones with this peeling..
So far no sign on my graphite.

Does anyone know of a TSB on this issue? Mine has a problem with the passenger side and I thought I read where someone on the forum mentioned about a TSB.

No TSB on the Crossfire list for this issue.

Thanks. Guess I will have to pay the local shop to fix it.

I'll probably look into touch-up spray from the parts store. The strip is so narrow it might minimize the appearance of being fixed. I know Dad won't sink a lot of cash into it.

The two trim strips the run between the roof and door. They are about 3/4" wide. On several Crossfires the paint is bubbling and peeling off.
Apparently the problem is growing in numbers.

I'm trying to figure out what 3/4" strip you are talking about. Is this regarding a coupe or roadster?

OK. That's more 1/2" wide. Very strange problem. If it's not covered under warranty, it would be a very easy DIY project. One source to get matching paint, etc is www.expresspaint.com

Thanks Inferno for the paintmatch lead. I put it in my favorites. I hope more owners with the problem post. This could be another project for our forum legal department.

Another great source for paint is www.paintscratch.com
I like the way you can find a match - easier than other sites.

How did you convince them to do the 1/2 inch strip under warranty? I tried and they could not find anything in their system to justify it.

Fortunately they are perfect on the my graphite SRT6. I did have a blue 300C with cracking clear coat on the left strip which got replaced under warranty.
