Default Silly Headlight Questions

So, in my previous car (RX-7), I had a nice set of PIAA headlights that were just awesome. I want to buy some PIAA's for the Crossfire now, but I have a few questions that are keeping me a bit confused.

First of all, I see that the part numbers for the High and Low beams are both H7.

So, can I just buy two pairs of H7's and install them and the ones in the high beam location will be brighter, or do I need H7's with different wattages?

Speaking of watts... Looking at choices from PIAA, some of the bulbs are 55w, while others are 50w, both being H7. Does that matter? I saw some users have issues with the warning light coming on indicating a headlight burnt out due to HID's that run at very low wattages. Will 4w make a difference to worry about?

For the foglights, PIAA's are all 51w, is that the same as the stock bulbs?

Sorry if these are old questions, I browsed around a bit, but my questions are so newbie-like that I don't think they could be cleared up for me anywhere else lol.

Here are the pages I'm looking at if I'm confusing you:

For the H7:
http://www.piaa.com/Bulbs/Bulbs-H7.html

For the 9006:
http://www.piaa.com/Bulbs/Bulbs-9000.html

Also, any recommendations on which ones you would choose out of those options? (and I'm going to shop for a lower price, don't worry )

I don't think they will be any brighter, i believe the low beams are 'focused' at a lower angle so as to not shine in the eyes of on coming traffic. i believe the higher wattage will mean brighter light but i think in the US the max legal wattage is 55 watts.

Ah ok, that would make sense.

I'm going to go with the Xtreme White's, for both High/Low beams and the fog lights, that way I'm sticking with stock wattages for all bulbs, but I get to enjoy the whitish-blue tint to the lights

I just drove a lap around the local 2 mile block-and have decided that the HID's are probably my favorite mod/upgrade. Safety concerns aside, it just looks cool!

Our park light (running light) is located in the upper corner of the headlight housing. Did you replace the somewhat yellowish burning park light bulb with something whiter burning to compliment your new bright white headlight bulbs? Squirrel Crusher

With incredible difficulty, yes. I put in these little 194 "inverted cone" white LED's.

Does the 194 LED's keep the turning signal instrument cluster light on that makes you think you have a burnt out bulb? Do you recommend the 194 as a replacement? What instulation difficulties did you have? Is this a Auto Zone item? Thanks..

  1. Yes, the "Bulb Indicator light came on, and I installed load resistors. I found a place you can order them for ~$8.
  2. I like the color-it matches the HID's very well. I recommend them.
  3. The little buggers are really hard to get at. I'd rather replace headlight bulbs for a living.
  4. I have not seen them at Autozone. Here are some options:

Resistors:

Hope this helps!

I asked for some similiar bulbs for mine, crap I guess I might as well order the resistors. I use similiar resistors at work, but I think they are a 50 ohm. Once again thanks max. chris
Are they just hard to get to?

07,

yeah the "eyebrow" lights are tough to get at. Long (Xtra) needle nose, bent if you got 'em, and patience. Lube the o rings before re-assembly-the only way to turn them easily.

Year old thread.

He probably found the the PIAA's were comparatively yellow, just like all of the halogens I've tried.
