Hey guys, I have been reading all over this forum about debadging and I am pretty sure I know how to do it using dental floss and some wd40 or goof off. My question though, I have an 05 and it has about 42000 miles on it, been kept outside all its life. My xfire is black aswell. I want to debadge it tomorrow but was unsure about fading on a black car. Im not too famliar with waxing and clay bar so would it be a big problem? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys

You may very well find that the "imprint" of paint has not changed much over time . However, it may have left a silhoutte. Sometimes it can be buffed out; sometimes not. If it exists, it may only be visible in certain light.

If you have some other badge on the car (dealer lable?) that you could remove and check the paint change it would be to your advantage.

I removed the lettering from a '93 Alfa Romeo Spider last summer and the lettering silhouette was barely visible. After a couple of months you couldn't even tell they were ever there.

The only way you're going to find out is to remove at least one letter.

 

Veloce is correct. You can buff most of the color change out, but the sun will eventually fade it to match.

If you have a heat gun or even a Hair Dryer, you can heat the letters up prior to running the dental floss behind them. The heat will make this process MUCH easier.

 

My idea of debadging involves a little more than removing glued on items. I wish to get rid of the Chrysler wings altogether. Unfortunately the body is recessed to accommodate the wings.
Some A-hole backed over my bumper and into my grille with what I figure was a trailer hitch ball so while I'm at the body shop I'll get a quote.

I have seen people with different center logos, which I would like to change aswell. Instead of the CHRYSLER logo, its like a black and white picture of a crossfire..anyone seen this?

I was doing the clay bar treatment and the CROSSFIRE letters are a real pain in the you know what.

 

I have COMPLETELY debadged the rear of my black 2005 coupe and I think it looks amazing, much cleaner, and if you thought people asked what kind of car it was a lot before... just wait.

With my car, it had been kept in the garage all its life but has a roughly the same mileage as yours Membrillo69. There was noticeable difference between where there had been badging and not, but it was not horrible. I buffed the section several times and finished with a Nano-wax that worked quite nicely. If you stood on top of it with an HID light, you could probably still see some remnants, but to me, well worth it. Mine came off easily and I used a 3M adhesive remover, just make sure to let it sit on the adhesive for several minutes and it will be easy as hell to get off - just do not let it dry on the car, and NEVER attempt in direct sunlight or if your paint is hot.
